That sums up pretty much every fanbase ever, not just anime.

This is NOT how you handle the situation, never resort to corporate tyranny like this, it will not end well. The streisand effect destroys people and companies fast.

It doesn't look like they actually care, just that they're obliged to do something to appease all the apparent complaints they're getting.

Agreed. "You asking me to not draw porn of your character is CeNsOrShIp!" *furiously draws heinous porn of them* "Sure showed you!"

That's something I've literally seen happen. Pretty ridiculous imo and patently immature.

As much as I don't want Rule 34 to happen to Ellen Baker, pornographic images of a character are bound to happen when any character achieves high popularity.

I know this is unpopular but i approve of this, fan art is fine but when fan arts starts to turn into porn that's just wrong imo, especially when the original character came from an Innocent english textbook.

I also for one wouldn't mind if porn parody's were illegal but that's just me, i know is not gonna happend/stop but neither is world peace but hey, one can dream.

I get where they're coming from. It's kind of like My Little Pony; its target audience(young girls) can't look up information about it online without getting brony'd to death. This seems (slightly)more innocent, though.

Heh, if you read the statement from the publisher first, it makes the statement from the artist sound like he was given orders to say something about Ms. Baker's popularity.

Maybe I'm just weird, but the way I see it, your character's become truly notable if there is porn of him or her out there. Well, porn drawn by a competent illustrator, at least.

Depends on the fanbase. A sufficiently small one cannot afford to have these not-so-nice people or else the fanbase will fall apart. One that comprises mostly of middle-aged and elderly people are almost always quite civil as well, as they've had time to mellow out. And a fanbase for a new thing hasn't had time to break into loud hostility just yet.

Though not porn-related, it still doesn't hold a candle to the most mismanaged fan-rage event I've ever seen: A collection of Sonic fans attempted to boycott SEGA by buying Sonic 1 (the 16-bit version) as released on Steam, WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade, and the PSN.

...you do realize that people have been drawing pornographic takes on Disney characters for decades, right?

The legal head is basically saying, "We had to say something, so we did. We don't actually care. It happens all the time, after all."

That is the most hilarious misunderstanding of the word 'boycott' I have ever heard of.
