I AM SO HYPED! It's over a year away but I so hope that 1. I can go; and 2. That it is a monster success! This has big name supporters and hopefully the staying power that Waku Waku con unfortunately didn't have. I'm another NYCC attendee who has been increasingly disappointment by their handling of their meager anime & manga content. This year, they seemed to have scheduled all the industry panels back-to-back on Thursday (as far as I can tell, they're all in the same panel room as well). That's not as bad as scheduling them against one another, but I imagine that anime/manga fans who could only attend on a different day are disappointed. It's not like you can check the schedule-or even the full guest list-when they give you the narrow opportunity to get tickets months before anything is final. And with the new fan verification process that connects your tickets with your email address, you can't sell or even exchange your tickets once you've got them. You just have to trust that NYCC will offer something you will like on the days you bought tickets for, that the guest you specifically bought tickets to see will have their panel(s) when you can actually see 'em. This years schedule has been especially underwhelming.
So NYCC sucks if you're a fan of something niche (another not as niche fandom of mine, American cartoons like Steven Universe, are barely represented this year. Even Game of Thrones only has one guest, as far as I can tell). We need an anime con in the city--New Jersey and Long Island are not accessible for non-driving commuter attendees. And Liberty Con might be a nice fan run gig, but I wouldn't know, since they didn't do any marketing whatsoever and this thread is the first I heard that they were in the city this year (last year they were definitely not). C'mon, Anime NYC! There's no reason that NYC anime fans should have access to almost everything in anime/manga retail (Kunokuniya, Book-Off, occasional concerts and screenings) *except* a con!

Well this is interesting enough that I am hoping it becomes a big con since we don't have that many big Anime conventions on the east coast. Smile

I can only speculate how many attendees they hope to have. Because it is a new con, it could be a big flop. However, when you have companies like Funi and CR sponsoring, it might not be as much a flop.
