This is so stupid. I hope people protest enough so that they lift the ban.

Me thinks some executive's trap detection game was too weak, he made some mistakes, and now is making sure it doesn't happen again.

Considering the average comic/anime fan is hardly a looker (don't worry, I count myself in that demographic), it seems ridiculous to ban anyone wearing what they want. Where would a convention be without a fat guy dressed as Sailor Moon!

What is the world coming to.

Well damn that sucks a$$%#.

I remember some cons events reported here from ANN where "unattractive men dressed as women in cosplay" do it for the FUN of it. So all males shouldn't be ban from cosplaying.

This crap again? I know it's been a while but ANN ran another article very similar to this and the ban was dropped after the shop committee which imposed the ban "realized" it was morally wrong to ban something like this.

animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-11-14/osaka-government-drops-crossdressing-ban-at-cosplay-event

What? Is Tokyo Comic-Con going to suddenly reply saying "It was a rule we implemented so as to not cause disorder, and there were absolutely no thoughts of discrimination"?

How are they going to enforce this, especially in such cases where someone might have a name that could be used for both genders. I doubt they have enough staff to enforce this.

...Maybe they'll be doing kilt checks?

I'm curious to know whether or not this counts for transgender people.

While I disagree with this ban, I think it's probably a more complicated matter, seeing how the article mentions it's common practice on Japanese events. And to a degree, I could understand this ban, not that I agree with it, as I wrote. Few months ago, I was on gaming event, where there was this 40+ man dressed as that little girl from The Last of Us gaming series. It was so wrong and bad in so many aspects, that he got prize for worst cosplay, that the organizers didn't even plan originally and made it just because of him. Quite honestly, I hope I will never see anything like that ever again in my life.

I know a few guys who could easily still get away with this. Unless they are going to be assaulting them, not sure how they are going to fully enforce something like this.

As long as nothing is hanging out or too tight in the crotch I see no problem with male crossplay

They didn't ban cosplay, just crossplay. Still stupid, just slightly less stupid.
