Silver hair? I know that Love Live is popular and maybe they state in in the series, but Eli has anything but.
I have another silver-haired Russian to name, though: Yulia Valkova from Girlfriend(Beta)

I think it's Eastern Europeans in general who tend to be depicted with silver hair, although maybe the caricature is just running together into an indistinguishable blob.

At least the blonde hair makes sense. You know what I want to know?

What's the deal with Russians and coonskin caps?

I've seen this hat on Russians in Sakura Wars and Darker than Black.
But I'm pretty sure this is a very American hat...

Edit: found a better picture of what I'm talking about.

Kudryavka is KEY's example. Looks more silver in some scenes.

Also, Eli is totally blonde.

I just rewatched AnoHana and must've missed when they said where her mom was from. Makes sense though.

Russian anime characters are often depicted with whitish, grayish, or golden hair.

I missed it after skimming the title of the article, but they did mention more than just silver hair for Russian stereotypical characters in anime.

Aside from Russians=silver/white/blonde hair, and Americans=blonde+blue eyes, I'm curious what other phenotype stereotypes fans have witnessed more than once in their anime-viewing experience.

A golden hair example would be the Nekozawa siblings, Ouran High School Occult Club president Umihito and his little sister Kirizima from Ouran High School Host Club, who are supposedly descended from the Tokarev Dynasty line in Russia.

It's never been confirmed but Tsumugi "Mugi" Kotobuki on K-On! may be part-Russian (or some other northern European ethnicity, Finnish is another possibility), since she's portrayed as blonde and often wears a Ushanka-style winter hat in winter.

There is a small Russian city that was briefly a Japanese city, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on Sakhalin Island. It was originally a small Russian settlement called Vladimirovka from 1882 to 1905, when the Japanese took over southern Sakhalin, which became Karafuto prefecture and Vladimirovka became Toyohara during the occupation until just after the Second World War, when Karafuto became part of the Soviet Sakhalin Oblast and Toyohara became Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Most obvious signs of the Japanese occupation are gone, with the exceptions of the Sakhalin Art Museum, at one time a Japan Colonial Bank, and the Sakhalin Regional Museum, formerly the Karafuto Museum, designed by architect Yoshio Kaizuka in the "Emperor's Crown" style and opened in 1937.

If we're including blondes then Mika from Seraph of the End should be included! He's half Russian/half Japanese.

Well, while googling around to find out what a fur hat without a tail is called, I found apparently Russian-made fox fur hats with tails on ali express.

So I guess Russians do wear hats with tails. Or at least export them.
It's surprising because I've never seen this kind of a hat on someone who wasn't an American pioneer.

Yes, I always think of those when I think of "hats a Russian should wear"

Well, can we count Hibiki/Verniy from Kantai Collection as sample?
Except that she isn't really Russian, but have the traits and uses the russian words because of the her original model ship was the reparation to USSR after the World War II.

Also Natalia Kaminski from Fate/Zero (Kiritsugu's teacher/guardian).

What can I say, Russians are badass, and white hair is also badass <3
