The synopsis is terrible. Guy talks to cat but the cat ignores him. Then he places a can of cat food in the yard and finds it gone the next day? So what we learned is that this bloke is from a town devoid of cats? Or, has this guy just never seen a cat before.

I'll try an experiment. I'll speak to my wife's cat on the futon.

He seems rather indifferent.

Supplemental: I just offered him some food. He ate it and wondered back to the futon.

Yup; that's a cat alright.
