This is Yuasa so of course I'm looking forward to it, but that description just sounds so bland that if Yuasa was not attached to this then I'd have no interest in seeing it. It sounds much more Ponyo than Kemonozume or Kaiba (Yuasa's original TV series) for instance.

I've seen threads on MAL disparaging Yuasa and other directors for including symbolism at all, so yeah that's probably what they mean. People still get mad at "weird" art, even when it comes to what looks like Yuasa's most normal work; you'd think we'd have moved past this when dadaism came about, but I guess not.
