Is this an early digipaint title or something that might be on cels? A lot of that early digipaint stuff has no visible difference between the BD and sticking the DVD in your BD player. Really noticeable on Funimation stuff that comes as a digipack so you can A/B it yourself.

Both are true; the first season was done on cels in 1999, while the second season from 2003 is SD digipaint. However, it doesn't matter -- as others have pointed out, the Japanese BDs just upscaled the analog masters for season 1, instead of doing a new HD film transfer. Which is why I find it odd that Sentai would choose this title to go Blu-Ray only. (Why not do that with some popular recent anime that was native HD to begin with?) Given a choice between getting an SD show via a questionable Blu-Ray upscale or on DVD, I'd generally rather go with the DVDs.

Still, nice to see them finally getting a Sunrise license rescue out after 3.5 years.

Deffinetly picking up The Big O. I've been waiting for it for quite sometime.

so am i but the real question is how the hell did they even get big o in the first place??? sure bandai ent is no more but the series just like with IGPX (immortal grand prix ) is basically products of cartoon network / toonami since they shelved out the money to have those two series produced.

While Adult Swim/CN provided much of the financing, international home video rights were retained by Sunrise. It appears that CN only retained TV rights for the titles, and only season 2 in the case of the Big O.
