Is this the first time ever that a shop event dedicated to a particular anime series is happening here in the US? Or has there been other shop events like this in the past that I just don't know about?

Oh f**k yes!!! I'm totally gonna take a weekend trip to NYC for some YOI goodies. Now I just need to save $1000 within four weeks.
Also I think when Princess Mononoke was in theaters they had a promo code for Hot Topic (speaking of which you can now buy YOI t-shirts for men and women) and if you brought your ticket to Kinokuniya you could get a discount for Ghibli merch. |
