That's really cool that they got an actual deaf actress to voice Shoko! I wish that was done more.

Wow, that's a really awesome casting choice. Has there been any word about someone distributing this in the US?

(And huh, I didn't know Amanda Winn-Lee was still involved in doing anime.)

Okay, now I want to watch the dub. I mean, having an actual deaf actress voice Shoko could make for an accurate performance!

I am happy they got a deaf actress to play her part. This means they want the movie to show they weren't about to ignore the fact disability is part of this film and made it more authentic. I can only hope Hollywood and others see this and understand that even anime can be diverse...since some in Hollywood want to cast perfectly healthy people in roles made for others.

I’m beyond happy that they got a VA who’s actually deaf to play Shoko. REPRESENTATION MATTERS!

And this is why I'm preordering the bluray from the UK instead of waiting 6 months for Eleven Arts to release it.
Wow I'm so excited to show this to my family! The US theatrical run isnt coming anywhere near me...

Same. I knew there were some issues with a child who had cancer a few years back, and I thought she had permanently drifted away from anime at that time.

Getting an actual deaf actress for the part of Shoko, though? Looking forward to that!

Oh yeah, this is a dub I'm really looking forward to seeing! Damned if I have to import from the UK, though, but I might bite the bullet. This cast looks too promising for me NOT to watch. Kudos for the use of actual children as well. That was something I adored about Nadia, Welcome to the Space Show, and A Letter To Momo. All three used kids for child characters and was actually all the better because of it. There are other examples to be mentioned, true, but these three stand out to me (I don't include Ghibli examples because they are kinda in a whole other league than what Anime is, but still, they count in their own way too.)

I really like how they went the extra mile in making sure that Shoko was voiced by a deaf VA; I feel like that's going to add an extra bit of realism to the dub that this movie will highly benefit from. And the clip that we see of it I really love the choices featured so far! I can't wait for this to hit the states at some point because I will be making sure to get it.

She never officially quit voice acting. She just started to focus mainly on games instead of anime for several years. She's been a staple of the Shin Megami Tensei/Persona games for a good while now. The last anime she was in had her reprising her role as Yukiko in Persona 4: The Animation.
