FWIW, I wasn't even reading the post. I saw it out of the corner of my eye.

Generally speaking I don't care if people use spoiler tags for vague comments about minor plot points, but when you can ruin the episode in the first sentence of your review, you should use a spoiler tag for that sentence. Especially when the last episode had a cliffhanger ending about who won a contest.

Season 2, episode 11

Decent episode.

I really liked the Hisako and Souma chemistry for some reason when they were working together. It seems she's not as cold as before towards him this episode either. Also, I think Megumi's skills are really underrated. Glad to see that she shows more of her talent even if it's just a little.

While all this is happening, I think the arc is doing its job by showcasing its most prominent characters and ability to work while under stress.

Season 2, episode 12

That was interesting for Souma's character development. From a technical perspective, I like how he seeks to improve himself by working at Shino's Tokyo. And by experience, he can improve himself to greater heights.

The Souma and Shinomiya chemistry is something I find surprisingly fun to watch. Their relationship is more on a professional level now and I guess we'll see what he's learned from working there.

One more episode left...

Every once in awhile it's nice to see an episode where a character isn't constantly on the brink of disaster. I mean, yeah he could've failed, but we knew he wouldn't. In other words, there was just enough tension to keep it moving, but not so much that I couldn't just relax and enjoy watching competent people work competently under pressure.

Season 2, episode 13 (finale)

I think it was a good season, not great but entertaining because of the Fall tournament and the training stuff in the final few episodes. Really wish this was 2-cour though so it wouldn't of been rushed from the first few episodes.

Despite that, I think the season was still pretty damn entertaining in the end with the rivalries, foodgasms, and cooking mechanics. Souma's always so clever at crafting his dish including in the finale with the quail. I think he really earned the respect of many rivals since he entered the school and after undergoing the Stagiaire.

Rating it as good.

Season 2, Episode 13 (finale)

Yeah, this was a good way to finish it off. To really explain my thoughts of the series, it has kind of been mired by a bad taste I felt early on with some foodgasm scenes that I found a bit too obscene and used things like naked men as humour. Having gone through the second season I feel pretty good about the series as it seemed to mature and use things like the foodgasms more tastefully while keeping some of the fun. The second season felt less like it used unfair system or the like to create tension, the more tournament focus gave a bit more focus on characters, and I actually like the characters. Except maybe Erina who is still in desperate need for character development. Alice is a character I quite like though.

This season to me felt liked it evolved past what I expected, so it made up for the loss of initial impact, so I will give it an equal rating of Good (7/10). I think now I can say that I like the series without feel embarrassed about it, and although there is more that I would want to see, I think that this is a reasonable place for the tv series to end.

Season 3, episode 1:

Nice first episode.

We got introduction of the main characters again and I like Souma's character chemistry with both Erina and Megumi right off the bat. There's a glimpse of the Elite 10 (yes, Rindou!) so expect to see more of them later on this season. Foodgasm wise, it's just going tame so far with the tofu but I expect that to pick up too.

Personally, I like the ED theme song better than the OP song.

Season 3, Episode 5

I was going to say that this season has had a nice change. It starting with how there is so much less hostility, Erina mostly being the bigger outlier, where even her right hand girl being practically friendly to him. Those in the elite 10 and like seeing that he is skilled and not worth simply being looked down on. It was even nice in this episode where one of them (Rindou) took Soma with her, and we saw even the top dog is not perfect in how he is apparently a big worry wart.

Perhaps that was turned on its head when we finally met Erina's father, who seems to kind of embody part of Erina's snobby attitude, but far worse in how she is afraid of him. He clearly dislikes the likes of Soma, and his views of people he sees as below, kind of giving off this sort of Ragyo like vibe. Six out of the elite ten (including Rindou) turning on the current director for this horrible man. Kind of odd in I don't know if he would even consider them classy enough based on what he said earlier. Surely Rindou should not be under the illusion that Soma would find himself part of that camp.

Rindou is quickly becoming one of my favorite female characters for this Fall. I love the character chemistry between her and Souma already and she has a personality that I find attractive. Erina's father even creeps me out a bit so I don't blame for the way Erina reacted.

I'm guessing this season will explore more about the Elite 10, especially for the top seats.

The first season starts with a recap of something that hasn't happened in the TV anime, right?

This season is treading on thin ice with its whole child abuse angle. I hesitate to call its execution morally problematic or anything like that; it's just that the framing of such a heavy issue in the context of a shōnen-structured show about cooking is...odd, threatens my suspension of disbelief, and sorta takes me out of the moment. At first, I thought, "Oh, goodness; we're about to go full-on Yu-Gi-Oh with this shit, aren't we?"

To its credit, it does two things right:

In spite of spoiler[Soma being asked to "save" Erina by her grandfather--who could just as easily have broken her out of there himself as the concerned grandparent, mind you--and the show almost diving head-first in to the damsel-in-distress trope, Soma nevertheless takes a back seat in this sub-plot and becomes more concerned with saving his dormitory]. There's yet more ground to cover, but so far, this is fine.

spoiler[Erina is instead broken out early on by a disparate group of people in and out of the Polar Star Dormitory and sheltered there, making her rescue more of a group support effort, which is far less problematic and more relatable.]

Otherwise, this is good ol' Food Wars!--which is good ol' food pornographic fun. It's not doing anything particularly new, but then, it doesn't really need to. It's Food Wars! Razz

Season 3, Episode 9

Was feeling a little frustrated with this episode's pushing in the plot, because it was feeling that it would be clear that the show would not the random background characters actually win against the Elite 10 even in their chosen specialty to save their clubs. Like there would be no point and actually undercut what the series is trying to make a point that the way all of these different people can do their own thing is actually worth while. Like Soma is just great, and he should just be in central for others.

So I at least hope that that Ryo will at least be able to win to show worth in character to face the system other than Soma. And to follow it with hopefully Ikumi who is supposedly off screen for her own challenge. It is not fun when the whole thing is the characters being pushed down.

In other ways I don't even really get it. Like it would be one thing if it was like all the weirdo main characters were being pushed down by the perfect and proper classy people, but all of the people high in the system are just as much weirdoes, so you would think they would not want to push down individuality.

Season 3, Episode 11

Stakes just went crazy, from Soma not thinking to badly of some members of Central like the 1st seat, to being offered a role in Central, to pretty much a Shokugeki that could drastically change things. Like it seems crazy at either role that Soma become a puppet assistant of the 1st seat, or actually take the seat for himself. And finally capping it off on a reveal of what Central is planning, and there is no way Soma can let that pass.

Season 3, Episode 12

Wait, was this the last episode of the season or not? It felt like the last episode of a season in general, but included the to be continued, with question marks of if that is the case, and an explanation point as if to confirm it.
