Kind of necessary when hollywood's doing a live action movie. Not having the source material for the western audience would be pretty bad.

Detective Pikachu's character feels more like a human that got stuck in the body of a Pikachu rather then a Pikachu that learned how to talk. Maybe that's the twist.

I played the Japanese episode 1 back when it first came out. For one, Pikachu never learned how to talk. Everyone except the MC just hears a manly "Pika pika!"... but that aside, I'm convinced that the MC's father's consciousness infused with his Pikachu's body since the accident or sometime afterward. I'm also convinced we'll see a talking blue Pikachu (antagonist?) somewhere later in the game, but that's far more speculative than it is based on any strong evidence.

I'd always thought it was weird we weren't getting it even before the movie announcement, since aside from being a Pokemon game, that key image looks exactly like redone Westernized box art from the 90's.
