Cool! Looking forward to seeing the first Dragonball Super movie, or at least knowing what the story is going to be about and how it would play out.

Official site also has an English translation of the statement from Toriyama, saying it’ll further explore the relationship b/tw Frieza and the Saiyans.

Woah, that Goku design looks kinda old-school. I don't mind the design updates as of recent, but seeing that...I got some serious nostalgia waves. Good or bad, time will tell.
I'll take more Dragon Ball any day.

Yeah! Goku looks good in that picture plus taking another look at it the character design does look a bit like how Goku use to look in a way before the design went for a more angular look.

Is Funimation going to wait until the show finishes airing on Toonami before they release it in theaters? If so that’ll mean it won’t come out for another year or so after it comes out in Japan.

That Goku design with the nyoibo. It looks better than everything in Super.

I already knew about this since the first news, but it continues to sound boring.

Of course not. They've released the Fairy Tail movies before their dub even reached that part of the story resulting in English dub watchers getting spoiled. No one was forced to watch the movies and with fans watching on Crunchyroll (ahead of Funi's dubs for obvious reasons), it ain't really a big deal so nothing should stop them from releasing anything.

I'd like to see more variety of combat. I love the ki blast light shows just fine, but I want there to also be palpable, hard hits, bone crunching, out maneuvering, etc. One of Super's flaws is that much of the combat looks samey.

It's interesting that they are letting Toyotaro take the manga in its own direction--will he adapt the movie and then continue to his own plot ideas? Or will Dragon Ball Powers That Be (anime writers, brand managers, etc) dictate plot points that will be adapted to anime in the future?
Anyway, I knew Super wouldn't end without a follow-up (which is good), but a movie means waiting twice as long to see the material (which is bad).

Will this have to go through 20th Century Fox (or Disney?) before Funimation gets it?

The Toei staff said they want the new movie to be the best Dragonball has ever looked.
the fact that Tadoyoshi Yamamuro, the guy who was doing character design for DragonBall movies for decades is being removed is a good sign for this, as his modern designs are hated by Toei animators for the stiffness impeding their animation quality.

If the entire movie follows those character designs I'd be so happy.
