Well now that I know the backstory about her mother (which other miko undoubtedly know as well), it seems all the more urgent to tell other people (you know, like the woman who put them up and fed them and all), since given that history, it really would look like it's just a homicidal grudge she's holding. And also maybe to warn them? That'd be nice.

Well, their swords met this episode and the world didn't end, so that scene must've been about something else. Maybe it was just their swords telling them, "Hey, heads up, there's a super-hyper-talented swordswoman in front of you."

Episode 5

Things have heated up. Seeing Kanami’s and Hiroyi’s trust in each other increase and defeating one of the elite guards in Maki Shidou was nice to see and oh, boy, does Maki not take defeat so kindly. I wonder how she will deal with the loss and explaining it to Yukari. Speaking of Yukari, there’s apparently an entire organization that’s dedicated to taking her down in Mokusa and Kaoru and Ellen just happens to be part of it, which just adds more interesting layers of world-building to the anime. Seeing Kaoru’s flashback as a young girl with Nene was sweet and definitely helped in characterizing her which made me started liking her more. Seeing Yomi create Aradamas out of her body looked gross and has me curious as to what happened prior to the show that made that possible. Seeing Ellen casually appear at the Elite Guard’s base was an interesting way to end the episode as it has me wanting to tune in next week to see what she has planned (as well as many other things in the show that I want to know more about.) This show continues to have me engaged in every episode and I’m glad that I decided to give it a watch.

I thought that it was surprisingly poignantly done. Lots of shows can attempt the childhood trauma of being lost and helped sort of thing, but it felt like little touches with how she was swinging the stick like a child pretending to have a sword, and her injuries later, that really sold it. Even Nene's cute sounds actually kind of became endearing.

Yeah, it was creepy too. We were watching what I think is a teenage girl repeatedly cut herself, and monster butterflies coming out.

Nene has good taste in bosoms. Although it makes me wonder why he wouldn't prefer to hang out with Ellen-cha-cha-chan more than Kaoru. I agree with you, JZ, that the show's many mysteries have me intrigued. This show is a number of cuts above the usual "schoolgirl bughunt" titles.

I feel better now knowing other people know the situation, but they could've found out about them a lot sooner if they'd tried to warn other people. Smile

Does her sword telescope or hide in a Tardis or something? It's long when it's sheathed, but drawn it's twice her height.

After six episodes, I feel confident stating that this is my favorite show of the season. I'm so glad we have another coeur and a half with these characters.

Agreed.
Even with Ancient Magus Bride's second cour and the Dub of Yamato 2199 running, I've been enjoying Katana Maidens the most this season.

Now it'll be interesting to see what the two senior guards and miss little screw loose have as far as abilities.

Episode 6

While I personally wouldn’t call this show my number 1 favorite, after 6 engaging episodes, this series is definitely within my top 5 of the season. If this series can keep it up for the second cour, Spring is going to become even more crazy. Anyway, the episode. Man, Mokusa is bigger than I thought due to the submarine showing up to escort Ellen, Kaoru, and company. Yomi injecting herself with the Aradama had me feeling taken aback because it was at that point I realized that this show is not fooling around. Sh*t is definitely getting real. Seeing Yukari overlooking what seems to be a huge container of Aradama was certainly foreboding and had me curious as to whether that thing is going to be the anime’s final boss, for lack of a better word at the time of writing. Seeing Kaoru yell home run knocking Ellen away to Kanami had me chuckling as it was both unexpected and well comically timed. The one elite guard with the screw loose is looking to make an appearance next week that’s more than a few seconds’ worth, so that’s something I’ll definitely be looking forward to (along with other things, of course). All in all, this show is heading in a direction that’s very different from what I thought it would head when it first started, and it’s shaping up to a solid one thus far.

Episode 7 -

It looks like the show has reached the end of its first "act", which is appropriate considering it's a little less than a third of the way through its planned two coeurs.

Based on the Episode 8 preview, it looks like we're going to finally get our obligatory "flashback that humanizes the villain" sequence. I for one can't wait to see what all of the adult characters were like back when they were toji.

Episode 7 was an interesting one as we finally got to see Yume engage in a fight with a couple of our main characters, Sayaka and Mai. The CG during that part looked well and didn’t look as off as earlier episodes. Seeing Yume cut down Yukina’s “henchmen” very quickly has me curious and intrigued as to how she truly feels about the current situation. The episode ends with all the main girls finally together and appeared to meet up with what looks like to be a relative of Yukari Origami, so that will be interesting to see where and how the show follows up from that. I’m also looking forward to seeing what the current adults were like prior to the start of this series as what the episode preview for next week is supposedly showing.

I like the growth that Sayaka has shown, and she turned against just becoming someone's tools. I am sure that sort of thing is cheesy, but I enjoyed it all the same.

I finally got around to viewing ep 7. Very interesting indeed.
While aligned with Yukari Origami, the head of Sayaka's school seems to be taking things a little too far. So what ever long-game the Origami Family's got might get exposed sooner than intended.

And then we have the Mokusa...
They at least realize whatever Yukari is and are mounting a clandestine means to oppose her. Though Yukari seems to be aware of them anyways.

And then there's our lead Toji...
Yea it took seven episodes to get them all together proper, but I think this middle third should be an interesting ride.

Episode 8 -

Good to know that even in the flashback, the evil principal still sucks.

Is Yuzuki the only member of the special unit that we haven't seen in the present? Ema the brunette principal, Iroha is the sleepy-eyed principal, Yukina is the garbage principal, Sana is the tanned principal who gets introduced this episode, Minato is Zangetsu Mom, and Kagari is plot device mom. The younger Origami sister was at the base of the mountain with the wounded, so that makes Yuzuki (the girl with short blue hair) the fifth principal.

And outside of brief mentions in the first ep and one of that's schools reps being Hiroyi's first opponent, there really isn't much stated about school #5.

And finally...
We have the backstory on this. Now we the audience have some rough ideas on the overall players and just how screwed up a mess this is.
It's also nice to finally get a understanding on the significance of Kanami and Hiroyi's swords. I just have to wonder if Hiroyi's sword has a shade of her mother like Kanami's does?

Episode 11

Oh, I did not know that they could get me to care about the crazy battle hungry girl, but finding out that she was pretty much abandoned after getting a terminal illness, being saved (prolonged) by the evil stuff, and mostly wanting to be remembered. Although, there would be more positive ways to be remembered. Another one of the girls spouting about justice, and accepting the power because she felt weak, jealous of a monster, and a girl that had nothing else with her life being cut short. I still feel like I would be screaming that the enemy are pretty much working for the devil, rather than the person people keep calling her.

Also, they should be easily be able to stop butterfly girl, she is really not giving any other choice than killing her.
