Oh my god.

It HAS to be about Musashino making a movie, right?

Not a surprise. Sakura Quest was a dud & so was Mizushima's solo project The Lost Village, so the two coming back to Shirobako now makes sense. Film is a safer bet to gauge if there's still sufficient fan interest before committing to a full series, too.

If it is not I am going to be disappointed beyond reason.

I don't think a second season is really necessary. I really think that the TV series is sufficient and showed enough already. Another 12-episode series will just be "more of the same" without putting anything new on the table, and will be inferior to the first season since the first TV anime has novelty going on for it. So yeah, a film to end things up is good enough.

more shirobako is a welcome surprise. i know the studio wanted to do more with the IP but said they were too busy with other projects. looks like its time has finally come.

YES! I loved Shirobako, and while I would have really loved a second season, a new film is just as good.

Having the first 12 episodes on more than a single disk would be nice too. I always thought there was a dark humour in Sentai treating the show that specifically dealt with how hard, yet valuable & gratifying the work animators perform actually is, on the same level as one of their mid-tier light novel & ecchi releases being shat out around the same time.

Here's my completely unrealistic hope: the movie is about the rise of international streaming giants into the industry over the past few years & how it effects (or doesn't) the animators on the ground.

I mean the film's awful sub-titles/headers basically write themselves:

Shirobako: Carry On Up The Amazon

Shirobako: Up Amazon-Creek Without A Paddle

Shirobako: Netflixin' About

Shirobako: Hullabahulu

Shirobako: Bilibully

Don't take this away from me

Sadly, it seems in recent years that a movie is often the kiss of death for the chances of a second season.

In the past 6 years, how many late night series can you think of that followed up an original movie (not a compilation film) with another TV series? Now, think of how many didn't, even if the movie did well.

Off the top of my head, only Steins;Gate and Sword Art Online come to mind for the former, while a number come to mind for the latter.
