Certainly better than before because it leaves the mapping between content and exact age level to the audience, i. e. you now give information instead of setting rules for behavior. The current labels sound like synonyms for the MPAA labeling system without providing an exact mapping.

What I would like better is differentiating between the causes of objection (hentai isn't the same as violence, cursing isn't the same as pantsu shots, individual tolerance for both may differ; other "difficult" topics such as incest, divorce, drugs, pregnancy are of a completely different type) but this would require a data model change (eroticism: clean, fanservice, sex, porn; violence: none, non-graphic, explicit, splatter; plus certain thematic elements treated in a similar way as genres; see anime.mikomi.org for an approach in this direction).

I really want to do that (I've wanted to do that for a long time) but it's out of scope for now; I'm just talking about a 1-to-1 mapping with different terms.

That sounds awesome, Dan. I think that would clear up a lot.

Since I apparently do not have the necessary permission to edit it:

Step Up Love Story (OAV) is currently rated "Pornography", which is too high. I have only seen episodes 1 and 2, but those only have sex offscreen. TRSI rates it "17+" (volume 2; "Strong violence and strong language. Prevalent Nudity may be contained within the picture. Mild sexual situations may be shown.") and Media Blasters released it under their Anime Works label, not Kitty Media. IMHO this series deserves a "Mature" rating.

Is it automatic because of the "erotica" genre?

Possibly, though I thought that was fixed.

Aah—I was thinking of this thread (though my brain isn't parsing the implications right now, probably due to low blood sugar):

"[done] Searching and non-pornography "erotica" ani"

Also relevant:

Dan42's post in the "Kemonozume is not a hentai anime" thread

Bumping an old thread to show my concern over Barefoot Gen being rated Significant.

This movie has incredibly bloody violence, and old VHS copies of the movie have "NOT FOR KIDS" written right on the box. Definitely not on the level of Detective Conan or even Full Metal Panic.

[Re-bump] I still can't fix these.

Barefoot Gen (movie)

Barefoot Gen 2 (movie)

Edit: Cleaned up links.
