BTW, Fatal Fury is also a "buried treasure" now. Crying or Very sad

Later, Tekken and others of its ilk took what Virtua Fighter started and managed to pull it off much better.

If you mean it succeeded in button-mashing, I agree. Rolling Eyes I take it you didn't like Shen Mue, either?

Yay, Virtua Fighter! I'm glad I'm not the only one who recognized how much fun this series was.

Darn another show to buy. Rightstuf has both for $10. Though there are only around 30 copies. I probably won't make it in time.
Sad

I gave up on the article after your description of Virtua Fighter. Someone didn't bother to play 2, 4, or 5 I take it?

I clearly said I was talking about the first one. They did get better, but my point was that they never really caught fire here.

But props for keeping an open mind.

Great Avatar. Uhm, some of us caught on why you only mentioned the 1st one... because that's what the anime based off of... right?

Sorry I just posted cause I loved your avatar. I remember seeing a friend play Virtual Fighter for the Sega Saturn around the time the system 1st came out. Never played it myself and never plan on watching the anime. Great avatar though.

I'm feeling rather sheepish that I REALLY enjoyed Virtua Fighter 1. My local skating rink had the arcade machine, and I played it until my allowance ran out. Sure, it didn't have the polish of Street Fighter II, but it was still loads of fun.

Good article as always. If I was in America right now, I might try to track it down.

I don't know...you might make it in time. Wink

Anyway, I'll probably go ahead and order this series. $20 for 26 episodes is a pretty good deal. Might as well since I've been buying a lot of Media Blasters titles lately. Cool

yet another buried treasure that i had seen before i knew about it here Very Happy

Quote:
One must also mention the WWE-style announcer who must explain every fighting technique as if it were the force that would stop wars for generations

well said Very Happy this usually lasted around 10-20 seconds, somebody explains it with a accompanying slow motion scene of the technique. one of the more unique feature of the series..

We'll probably never get the last 18 episodes,

Last 11 Episodes that is (35-24 = 11) and yeh, it's impossible to get the last 11 Episodes subbed into english, I'll be grateful if anyone has them, or knows how to get them, PM me and then I'll finally be able to watch the whole series.

Hmmm... not sure if I'll be able to get into this one. The only good fighting game adaptation to me was the first Street Fighter II film (Japanese preferably which had better BGM and acting). I saw how big Sega was in Japan and VF was a big part of that success. The technique on the games were a bit much for me but liek you said, the Tekken games improved on the 3D fighter vastly with its system.

BTW, I wouldn't say Mortal Kombat was a poor fighter. Nowhere near as intricate as SF or other Japanese games, but it was a fun environment and the finishers were always a hoot. Anime smile

"Later, Tekken and others of its ilk took what Virtua Fighter started and managed to pull it off much better."

That seems to imply to me that you didn't have much respect for the future VF games. I mean, the first Tekken wasn't very good at all...

darkseid: I thought the Fatal Fury anime was more enjoyable than SF.

Wow, I didn't even know this had been licensed! But after all these years, it's nice that the series got some love - I enjoyed it way more than SFII. Too bad they couldn't finish it though.

I could never sell this to anyone. When my teen's friends wanted to borrow stuff, they never wanted to borrow this one. I enjoy it more than Street Fighter.
