Please god no! All machine learning does well is to find the average result that gets the most positive feedback fed to it from its own master program. That does not create good art. Do we not remember ai developed paintings!

Not Tezuka's work if it's done by machine. Nothing will ever replicate it.

Agreed. This makes me worried for the future. There is no doubt in my mind that eventually AI will do a lot of the work for animators in the future, but just like most (or dare I say all?) other cases of technology taking over for human craftsmen the result is that the soul is sucked out of the work and quality suffers just so we can make MORE for CHEAPER. Compare hand-drawn hand-painted cel animation to digipaint, for example. With the traditional medium you end up with lots of personal touches from the animators, lots of added little details, that tend to go missing with digipaint. When an artist has to hand-draw a scene they fill in the minutiae which make the scene complete. In the early days of digipaint that sort of detail was entirely lacking and it looked like everything was drawn with the flood-fill (aka "paint bucket") tool instead. I can imagine the exact same thing happening with AI anime or manga.

If I were an avid manga fan and were familiar with Osamu Tezuka's works apart from the widely popular Astro Boy I would consider this disrespectful.
AI is a joke. They can't make art the same way we can. They can only copy and use different averages. And I don't think it matters if that's what we do or not, they make bad art period.

In the near future, no human writers exist. All manga is produced by two AI bots.

Doesn't seem to be a terribly popular opinion in this thread so far, but I'm really curious to see how this turns out. I don't know that I believe NNs are really ready for a commercial task like this yet, but I thought the use of gradient search over a fitted CNN to paint in the 'style' of chosen artists showed pretty shocking promise. Nice to see people starting to explore NNs' use seriously in actual applications.
On a similar note, my 3D art application of choice recently came out with a "de-noising node" that I believe is based on some breed of neural net under the hood. Haven't tried it out myself, yet, but artists who have seem incredibly impressed at its combination of fidelity and speed. Going to be a lot of fun to see neural nets leak into more of our everyday technologies (artistic and otherwise) like this.
