If the protagonist is a man it is problematic, if the protagonist is a woman and is sexy than it is problematic, if the protagonist is a woman and is cute than it is problematic, and the oppression narrative is a ride that never ends. It wasn't about the gender of the isekai protagonist it was about the target demographic of the story. That is why those complaints were only about recent isekai anime while the counter examples were isekai anime from the 1990's which were made for the shoujo crowd. Just to be clear shows like Escaflowne, Fushigi Yuugi, and Magic Knight Rayearth were great but I would say that How Not to Summon a Demon Lord, No Game No Life, and Re:Zero are also great and they are merely made for a different demographic.
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear will be interesting in terms of western reactions since Yuna has the sarcastic sense of humor of an otome protagonist but it is clearly a shonen story since there is no romance, a lot of cute girls, and it has shonen style battles.

Agreed. The summary is so painfully generic but I'll wait to see how the execution goes; maybe something in this can set it apart from the horde.

I stopped reading the manga after a while. It's about as generic as it sounds.
Anyway, spreadsheet updated. This makes 11 upcoming Narou anime, two of which are starting this week (Infinite Dendrogram and Bofuriznuts).
