that makes me very sad. I assume he's just out of ideas. Maybe he'll think of something in the future and change his mind about retiring >.<

If this is what he personally decided and is not being forced to retire, then I can respect his decision. I have issues with Fire Force, but I enjoyed the Soul Eater anime adaptation more (barring the ending), and am still sad that there was never a true continuation/reboot.

But will he actually retire or stop making manga? Will he become Hayao Miyazaki 2.0, so to speak?

He made two successful manga series. He earned the right to rest

Anyway, it's quite rare to see a Mangaka actually confirm that they are retiring for good. Not surprising though, the life of a Mangaka is hard.
If he doesn't waste money on big luxuries, then with money earned with Soul Eater and Fire Force, he can easily lead a comfy life with some simpler job.

Oh, that's a bummer, but he deserves to properly retire. I'm one of the few people, who enjoyed Soul Eater and Soul Eater Not! equially (It's like a badass shonen with awesome manga art and a heartwarming K-On experience in the same universe), but I've yet to read/watch Fire Force. Is it good?
While the anime of Soul Eater Not! improved the manga version, I'm still a bit bummed that the main series adaptation to this day still only has the original punch of friendship ending. Would totally love a studio known for wacky, stylish and fluid animation like Trigger for example to go ham on a reboot and adapt the whole thing.

That's a shock that this'll be his last manga. Hopefully he will keep up illustration, but otherwise I wish him the best. I personally fell out of interest with fire force, and while I don't necessarily think writing is quite his forte he was still capable of making some genuinely entertaining works.

This is the guy who has alleged that his ideas were taken to make Promare, right?

If he did, that's low considering Fire Force was pretty much Blue Exorcist with fire fighters.

Sad to hear that it's his final work. The writing may not be top tier, but his art and fight choreography is pretty damn good. I've always found his series to be a lot of fun.
