There's a little show called Patlabor I'd like to introduce you to...

As others have already said perfectly well, this show is kind of a fantasy, in many regards, and I can only say, ditto. If it was any kind of real, of course Cyberphobe is right. And Patlabor is pretty crazy, too. But, folks, ( looks around carefully, gets helmet on ) most mecha shows are fantasies, mechanically speaking.

Still, this and those are fun shows to watch.

You're using NTR wrong here. NTR doesn't apply in this scenario since the catgirl and telescope dude aren't a couple. Telescope dude is just an obsessive creep.

My LORD, the fanservice. I'm shocked, (not complaining) with Funimation's non-use of light beams, fog, or steam clouds. Is this the first series they've streamed where there's been none-of-the-above? I'm thinking of Tsugumomo, Teastament of Sister New Devil or High School DxD, etc. all had some kind of censorship. I just can't think of one off the top of my head. We are only at the halfway mark, but if there was an episode to have something blocked, it was going to be this one. I haven't gotten up to this point in the manga, so I don't know what's coming, but.... Shocked Shocked Shocked

Like you think the level of fanservice in this show is a lot? You mentioned Testament of Sister New Devil...this is literally kids stuff in comparison. It's mostly just underwear and boobs blocked by hair...eh! Rolling Eyes

Funi is not the one putting light beams, fog etc in these shows, it's all done at the source

I really could’ve done without the yuri sexual assault scene. The first girl they killed was also coded a lesbian (she blushed at Clair’s body before turning violent) and 2 abusive lesbians might indicate an uncomfortable trend. When it became clear that Sayaka didn’t need to strip down and molest Clair for her powers to work, I was less than happy that they went there. The line between skeevy and negative stereotype torture porn is a thin one.

The Cat Girl shenanigans we’re almost wholesome in contrast (except for the NTR, er, voyeur aspect). She really did lose her wallet, after all! I just hope Cat Girl doesn’t become a jealous yandere.

Interesting take in the review on the teacher scene. I never really thought about it in terms of them being outed as lesbians and what that would mean. I assumed the suicide was just from how socially damning having sex with a student would be. The order of events did lead me that direction since we only get confirmation that the teacher was a woman a bit after we learn of the suicide.

Either that's the biggest most impractical handcannon ever made, or that chick is the size of a toddler. Either way, her wrists will break and that gun is going right into her face the moment she pulls the trigger.

That was the reason she got so much respect for making that move. He knew that she knew firing the gun would end very badly for her.

The big thing to get the light bar treatment is usually nipples. I don't think we've seen any. Also, as someone else mentioned, it isn't Funi adding that stuff. It is there for the Japanese tv broadcast too. ATX use to have uncensored versions, but it seems like these days ATX airs the censored version too.

I'm worried she isn't going to live long. We saw who has the wallet, and she didn't react well last time another girl went inside her crush.

The fusion between Shuichi and Chihiro was unexpected and cool (I wondered where the dress came from, but who cares? It was a very cool design!) I wonder what Chihiro’s regular fighting form looks like—just the ears, or something like the fusion? Also interesting: the gun split into two.
I was glad that Claire didn’t express jealousy when she learned that Chihiro “piloted” Shuichi. Her tone suggested that she was annoyed, but it was hard to tell if she was just worried about his safety or jealous of Chihiro or a little of both, it was that slight. Which was refreshing in a genre that usually has multiple yanderes, all jealously and often violently overreacting at their stalker crush’s perceived interest in any other person. Elena seems to be that character in this show, I’m glad Claire and Chihiro (so far) seem more reasonable and pragmatic towards Shuichi.
Subaru was interesting— controlling his violent “parents” while piloting them in a naked and vulnerable state in their fists. Even more interesting was how Elena completely stopped his transformation with one word, which seemed like a physical block more than him following her instructions out of fear. How did these three team up, and what is their full dynamic—and mission—together?

Chihiro stopping Shuichi from shooting showed her empathy in uncovering his (apparently) blocked trauma with Elena (did they discover the spaceship crash together in that flashback?) I hope she lives, but it is not looking good. Can’t wait for next episode!

There is in the manga though iirc, so I wonder if the BDs will have any changes or if they'll keep it as is.

Yeah, looked like it, right? Plus, I think just like Elena used her little mascot charm as the template for Shuichi’s design, so did the alien use Shuichi’s drink from the hike as the template for his “magical” vending machine.

Also with Gleipnir being the title, are we supposed to infer that the alien is some sort of Loki-like chaos god, just entertaining himself during a tedious recovery mission?

Having read all the available manga so far, yeahhhhh, this is a very apt take.

Oh, Chihiro. Stupid, stupid, stupid, naive Chihiro. I have no idea why she thought contacting the most powerful enemy without telling anyone else was a good move, but it’s probably gonna get at least some of her teammates killed. And that would suck (protect Isao! He’s a sweet kid with cool plant powers who deserves a nicer environment than this death battle show!)

Meanwhile, Yuto’s skills don’t seem all that impressive in comparison to the bad guys and he seems to be the only other offensive fighter. They are screwed!

At least the relationship drama is still subtle with headnotes of drama. If anything, it seems that Chihiro is rooting for Elena? That was unexpected.

It's been awhile since I've watched a show that has me on pins and needles every episode. It also feels like it ends too soon everytime. I really can't wait for it to come out every week. It's not the most pleasant watch but it makes me think really hard every week and I appreciate these reviews so much for helping me parse my own thoughts. Very Happy

I may not be remembering correctly, and I don't want to talk about spoilers or anything, but could anyone else confirm that the show has been making some changes to how things played out in the source material? If so, I'm hoping that it doesn't mean that we're in for an anime-original ending after only a single coeur.
