I'd like to, but I'm currently spending that money on building a home theater instead. Darn.

That's one nice, but very expensive figure...
I guess if I win the lottery it can go on the list next to the life size Robbie the Robot and "The Robot" (original lost in space) figures, and a squad of full function moving Daleks....(Robbie and B9 protecting Rem)
Slightly more seriously, I love the workmanship that goes into those sort of 1:1 models and figures, and can quite see someone buying one, possibly to quietly display in their workshop or games room.

I think they've since been moved to the Kaiyado figure museum, which I've still never visited. |
Which characters were there? Please say there was an Urd.

Are these figures hand painted or molded in color?
If hand painted, is there any danger of the paint falling off as time passes. And could it be cleaned without damaging the paint?

I believe these are the figures Tempest was referring to.

Damn that's pricy. Now I kinda want a spoof movie of the "Ocean's" franchise where a bunch of otaku plan a heist to make off with a fortune in life-sized anime figurines like this one.

I think people are referencing this in the wrong frame of mind. They see anime character and think "figure", but at that scale it's no longer just a "figure" but a statue. As such, the price comparison should be made to "statutes" not simpler figures. Add to that the exclusivity, and relative demand... does that still get you to $40k? Don't know the answer to that; I've never had to go shopping for a statue before. But it's possible. I had a family member who worked in the auto industry. The cost of full-size clay models for production cars would shock you.
