I want to be an old man and complain about the number of times I've bought a definitive version of GitS over the years, but even putting the remaster aside this new box art is fantaaastic and a respectful nod to the international film poster. I hope it's still around by the time I have a 4K TV.

But did you get the UMD release, too?

I hadn't meant to collect them! I no longer have the 1998 DVD, but the 2-disc Special Edition DVD and the two identical BD releases are still on my shelf. I'm bitter about both the Blu-rays: both times I was hoping for a much better transfer, and both times got the same disappointing disc in a different box. It's not that it's a bad transfer so much that it's undone by other failings compared to the DVD special edition (e.g. 2.0 vs 5.1 JP audio).

If I were collecting, I'd have my sights on the laserdisc. Not to dismiss the unique charms of UMD, of course. Wink

Haha, I'm not knocking you for it at all. I have multiple copies myself and might even have a VHS still. If it's something you love and enjoy enough, why not? I think I've bought all of Utena 4 times at least.

That is some great art on that LD, though. I'd be inclined to pick it up myself and I don't even have a player anymore. Very Happy
