Asuka was used in a bunch of alt-right & MAGA memes for the past few years.

This is most likely just something some lawyer obligated them to put up. Not that they expect it to actually do anything, but just as a legalese pony show to tell a hypothetical court that they tried in case *thing* happens.

Anyway, I'm ready for that last kiss Khara!

I think it should be noted these are guidelines for a contest they were doing with pixiv. It's not like Khara was saying these are rules everyone has to follow under every context of drawing fanart like was made out on social media.

If that's the case then it seems like people have blown this out of proportion and the article should be updated to reflect that. I dont see anything wrong with a specific contest having guidelines.

There's a very big difference between politics and "politics". Saying Evangelion explores abstract or generalized concepts and topics like existentialisme, depression, humanity, or other issues is not the same thing as the way some people try to co-op characters to endorse certain real-world political parties or organizations. To go off an earlier example, people can argue Animal Crossing: New Horizons explores how silly capitalism or land ownership is, but the second Nintendo saw things like the Biden campaign using it to recruit kids or protestors in Hong Kong using it to fight against China of course they took issue with their work being used in a way that affects the real world and makes it look like they're complicit with those groups.

I doubt Khara is going to start cracking down on people drawing Eva doujins or posting fanart on their personal Twitter accounts like people are making this out to be. This seems more like guidelines when they do official collab events like this pixiv contest.

doesn’t it at least make sense since Hideaki Anno hates otaku and fanservice? Seriously, people cite EVA’s marketing material as a reason this is dumb (and I sort of agree) but the sexual content in EVA itself is designed to be creepy or exaggerated in a way that’s saying you’re an asshole for liking such things.

There's no mention of a contest in the original document. It's about posting on social media and other websites.

I'm pretty sure there's more pornographic fanart for Evangelion than any other media. Including the Bible.

Let's watch the over the top trollish comments please. Yes it is obvious this is an absurd joke if they think this will change anything, and are in fact only going to make the issue worse for them. Ask Blizzard and Overwatch.

Jesus I mean Asuka & Rei are pretty much anime Sex God's.

There is so much poon of them, that I've seen several artists pretty much do nothing or a majority of either Asuka or Rei (most of the time its Rei) porn.

ok, the porn and co-opting of Eva iconography for political BS I can understand but no extreme violence? in Evangelion art? thank God Khara finally stepped up to make sure there won't be any more of that icky violence in Eva... Now, if you're excuse me, I'm just going to go watch End of Evangelion.

Pixiv is like Deviantart while Pixiv Fanbox is like Patreon, but with the difference that they're aimed primarily at Japanese artists, and are very, very, much NSFW...

Khara posted a Twitter thread where they clarify that what they published are more guidelines than actual rules and that they're not going to pursue action against individual artists. Seems like this really was a pre-Olympics PR gesture after all.

I think Touhou art takes the cake by a long shot. I just tried searching a well-known anime art website for the tags "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and "Rating:Explicit" and got 112 pages of hits. When I tried searching for "Touhou" and "Rating:Explicit" I got an error message stating Unable to search this deep due to coding limitations, though the URL of the page suggested the results were 862 pages deep.
