Recording in the cinema with a camera, people still do that? That's pretty retro, i remember watching some movies in the early 00s like that. But then that stopped when people were able to steal the discs from screenings and upload them online. Maybe that's harder to do over in Japan so they have to resort to this old method.

I’ll do the 10 years. By the time I get out it’ll probably have a North American release date.

Anyway, my one series problem with this history is that Khara is losing ZERO IENES with the camrips. ZERO ( ¥0.0)
All the people that watched, is looking for or wish to see a camrip are people that are desperate to give money to them! Why the japanese still can't understand something so simple? Why make the rest of the world wait months and months to watched their movies? Even when the movie comes out in BD discs they try to prevent people for outside of the island from buy it.
Morons.
Of the movie appears on some torrent I'll get it just to help share it.

And by the way, forget about "Evangelion", this movie is just another one long Anno's struggle with mental health.

Next year we will have a "FINAL EVA 2.0.1" bulshit. At this point it’s just a cash mine, nothing else makes sense.

How did Avengers: Endgame circumvent this? Three words: worldwide simultaneous release.

The “if they don’t want it pirated they should’ve released it streaming,” argument sure feels like a hollow excuse when anything released on streaming also gets a “if they didn’t want it pirated they shouldn’t have it on *insert every single streaming service.*” At this point it’s super transparent than any excuse to justify piracy will be taken because at the end of the day it’s about entitlement. At least be honest about that while trying to defend shitty camrips because you can’t even wait for any other better quality option to pirate.

It's almost like people haven't spent the last few months complaining about the movie taking forever to release.

The people who make the decision regarding distribution are corporate leadership who are still living in the Showa period, higher up executives who are out-of-touch how consumption habits are outside of Japan. They are not living in the same world as we do.

There is also a degree of "power comes from above" mentality too. You, as the consumer, don't get to dictate the rules of consumption. The companies say we will only release this in theatres, they then expect the consumers just bend over and accept that as the reality. They expect fans to just get down onto our knees and be glad there is anything for us to consume at all.

There is no incentive to consult, hold dialogue, be accountable, be transparent, engage with the audience.

Unfortunately, what usually results from telling people not to do something that benefits them, is that more people do it instead...

.
It's literally only been a whole year since movie studios started putting out movies on streaming the same day as theaters and they only did it because people were dying in a pandemic. Also in the case of anime movies it takes time to translate and hire voice actors to dub it and there are things like licensing agreements. Especially now with the Eva license split between Netflix/GKids for the series and Funimation with the movies. I don't know when people suddenly had this expectation anime movies can realistically be out everywhere in the world at the exact same time. Especially when it comes to Hollywood movies Japan is usually the last to get Hollywood blockbusters in theaters. Like everywhere else had the Sonic movie before Japan did even though Sonic is a Japanese created franchise. How is that fair?

This is by far my favorite comment so far on this article cheers in reality the wait could very well be at least two years for a release stateside.

It is not a sudden expectation. But what last year demonstrated is that many companies has the capability to put their content on internationally free to access digital platforms. It is not a true logistical barrier. It is revenue barrier. Someone is losing lots of money and blocking this type of release or at least lobbying to maintain the status quo.

I come from an older generation where access used to so scarce. If I wanted to watch anything outside what was airing on TV, it is invariably illegal access. But the younger generation I have met never experienced that and compare their access to anime with other visual medium such as TV shows / films that are highly accessible on digital platforms.

For a more general audience who is less informed about the anime industry as whole, I don't think they have a full-spectrum understanding of how archaic and firmly seated the old structures of the industry are. That is what I mean when I say that the leadership lives in a different world than ours.
