This thing looks cool and I'm sure it's awesome, but isn't part of the fun of Transformers toys actually transforming it yourself? Transformers were my favorite toys growing up because in many ways they were 3 toys in one. A car/plane/spaceship/dinosaur/whatever, a robot, and a puzzle. To this day I still collect some of the figures that get released especially those in the Studio Series line. To me this thing is just 2/3 of what a Transformer should be.

That said, I still would totally mark out and buy this stupid thing if I had $700 burning a hole in my pocket.

According to CNET's video, the robot also responds to the "Transform" voice command:

Robosen reports that it's a legal issue — specifically a trademark one when using the word "transform" as a verb:

Okay, I guess I understand the reasoning. Thankfully you can properly tell it to transform.

I have a few dozen Optimus Prime figures, ranging from little $5 figures to big $500 ones. If I'm in the mood to transform an Optimus I can just grab one of those and still appreciate this thing for the marvel that it is. That's if I ever buy one, there isn't anything really stopping me, but it has already sold out twice on Hasbro Pulse!
