With two summons I wonder if some of the Saint's powers was split between the two. Aria's reported aptitude and advancement could be one of the Saint's skills.

That is my assumption as well after the most recent episode. Each of them is ½ of a Saint, so they will eventually have to combine their efforts to fill the role.

I think it is more like they summoned a saint and a half. That is Sei is fully functional as a saint and Aria is half way there with rapid improvement. Possibly this is because of how severe the situation had gotten at the time of the summoning (or possibly because Yuri is just that strong a magus). Of course, this does not preclude the nation needing two functioning saints to cope with the final boss.

Or is Aria going to be made to disappear. Into the most darkest reaches of a castle dungeon. Involuntary admission into a far off nunnery for life. A most convenient death via 'illness' or 'accident'. Or just plain old execution for falsely duping the Prince.

It is a big problem for the King. Such things are easier to deal with by making 'troublesome' people disappear. Usually. The Tower of London was such a place.

I didn't expect to be so invested in this show and felt sad when the episode ends. I need to know what's going to happen with Aira next. I hope the next episode she will appear again, and not only Sei learning magic while building her (not)harem.

Sei needs to be fully aware of what Aira's been through, I'm interested to see what she's going to do about it (or maybe Sei will beat the prince's punchable face first).

Anyway, has there been an agreement to call Aira "Aria" that I'm not aware of? Surprised

Just a common misspelling that I unfortunately do naturally without thinking.

the second light novel, the source for this episode, has Liz mention the reading thing as how she knew Sei was the (a) Saint.

Its kind of funny that they spent a good minute on this plot point in the episode we met liz but didn't follow through on it. I guess black hair black eyes has become such a anime shorthand for Japanese that it is a given from their perspective. Might make a good subversion to have a foreigner with those traits but perhaps only from our perspective.

From my point of view the episode was a little slow. Filling in details of her court duties and learning but Sei is a very passive participant in the episode. Mostly setup for the plot to advance next time.

Some ominous foreshadowing by the Reviewer about the upcoming story arc and Aira. Though the show has been foreshadowing trouble with Kyle for a long time, much more then Aira's experiences (which is basking nothing so far as far as the show has demonstrated).

I have to admit that I always find it odd when characters who have been whisked away to another world are easily identified as Japanese strictly by the fact that they have black hair and eyes.

And yet the anime and the covers and color pages of both the light novels and manga clearly depict her as having hair in various shades of brown and eyes of a medium brown shading to gold. I've noticed this with other series and wondered if it was an artifact of translation, a limitation of reproduction or do the Japanese really refer to dark brown as black.

I have known people with natural black hair (ironically of Irish or Welsh ancestry) and it doesn't look brown, even in strong sunlight. I'm not sure I've ever seen actual black eye color, but I probably wouldn't notice.

I've noticed some anime use odd hair colours for the visual but canonically the hair is black. In Toradora for example a lot of the characters have blue or dark green hair but their hair is described by characters (and a bottle of hair dye) as being black.

Personally I suspect the reason anime use hair colour as a shorthand for race, black hair for Japanese and blonde hair for a westerner is because anime characters don't look Japanese. Anime characters look like white people regardless of nationality so identifying their race from their appearance makes no sense. It would be weird for her to say she knew Sei was from another world because of her different skin tone and facial features because she doesn't have those. So I think anime, manga and by extension light novels just got into the habit of using hair or eye colour because it made more sense the way they're drawn.

Logically she would have a different ethnicity to everyone else, but perhaps could be difficult if Asian ethnicities are not common enough to have a name, or to explain it in a way alongside the anime designs. Unless the fantasy ethnicities might actually be similar to Asian/Japanese with the only difference being different hair and eye colours.

Probably really off topic, but in regards to Japanese made fantasy and a big nerd of the franchise, I have thought a lot about even the human like races of the Legend of Zelda series (Hylian, Gerudo, Sheikah and just human). And as someone who thinks way too much about that stuff, and with the stylised designs, is that the humans themselves can be like many different races. While I suspect the Hylians either have no real world comparison (pointed ears) or might otherwise be sort of fusions, having facial structures more Asian, but the lighter skin and hair and eye colours more common in Caucasians. Next to the Sheikah as the most culturally Japanese, and look similar to the Hylians although with darker skin, white hair and red eyes.

Sorry about what comes across as totally going into a different series subject, but I think it is at least a little interesting when going into a Japanese made fantasy series with ethnicities that can come across as more Western, outside of fish or rock people. And whether there is much thought. Race itself is generally thought of as a construct, so at least it can be interesting how it can be written around in fictions.

This may have been mentioned earlier but is anyone else noticing that the sub translations seem pretty further off than the usual sub translation?

Are you referring to the Ser thing instead of sir and often replacing a name or director. Or sentence translation? Its just that it can be very hard to criticise translation when so much of it is trying to bring the same meaning over to a language that communicates differently.

I thought maybe replacing the already fitting word of "escort" with "date". Logically saying he would act as her escort should fit the setting more, rather than date which I would think would sound more crude. Or is there some context that it works better? Did who was providing the subs think that "escort" being used as a euphemism at times in more modern language that it would not fit?

Oh, thank the saints it's not! Laughing

Still annoyed at how she turns into a blushing teenager in his mature adult presence. At least she's holding her own with Mr. Magus.

And her selective density persists -- Marie told her straight out that the Marquis' daughter was Prince Kyle's fiancée, but it took her forever to work her way through to the shocking realization that Liz, the daughter of the Marquis, was the fiancée of Prince Kyle. That should've clicked the moment she found out that Liz was the aforementioned daughter. But also weird was what did make it click. By itself, that Liz's fiancé was among those interested in Aira doesn't lead to the conclusion that he among that group must be Kyle. Ok, I can see that that still could've made things click (brains are weird), but the dialog is such a non-sequitur that it's jarring to me.

No I'm more talking about how they speak like 2 words but the translation lists like 5 words. In the sub. I get making minor changes to the translated script but this one just seems more noticeable than most shows I've watched in the past is all.
