Thank you for these reviews, I'm glad you liked the show! Smile These pieces brought up several valid aspects and interpretations about the anime that I haven't considered, and made Nagatoro even more fun to watch. So thanks again. Smile

Given the sheer popularity of the character, I will be very shocked if this is actually the last we see of Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro in anime form.

The anime seems to be a flop, with the first disc failing to hit 300 copies sold in Japan. I'd be surprised if we got more.

That's odd, CDJapan says that the initial print of the first Bluray disc had sold out and can no longer be purchased. Was that less than 300 copies...?

Remember when Blue Reflection Ray's bluray release got cancelled for "no apparent reasons"? Kinda makes me wonder what the shit is going on with the domestic japanese physical media market.

I think the question becomes, how useful are Blue-Ray sales as a metric? There was talk of Mushoku Tensei underperforming sales wise as well, yet it was the top streamed show of last season. ANN even just published an article showing BD sales are down once again this year. As for the 300 copies sold thing, do you have a link to that data. I've been trying to track down actual numbers once those rumors of poor sales came out about a month ago but I wasn't able to find anything.

For an anime with a sensitive theme of bullying, this review only garner less than 40 comments. Very low on this season.

I think the theme (or if not the theme, then the first episode) scared away quite a few people. On the other hand, those who would have stuck around to hate-watch it also didn't get much to chew on considering how the whole bullying theme mellowed out in later episodes. Frankly, I may have skipped the show as well had I not read the manga and knew that it was a lot more than what its initial premise suggested. Not much can be done about it, it's just how this genre is I guess.

They're still a decent measure of popularity, but in terms of where the success and financing for future seasons come from they're a lot less relevant. Honestly, the only stuff that sells well anymore are releases that come with event tickets or mobage codes. 300 is pretty bad if it's true, but I haven't looked into Spring 2021's sales yet myself. I'd say anything under 1000 is probably safe to consider a flop. Here's Winter 2021's Top 10 for comparison.

1. Uma Musume - 179,965
2. Sk8 - 8,928
3. Yurucamp - 6,250
4. Re:Zero - 4,763
5. Slime - 4,594
6. Mushoku Tensei - 4,385
7. Azur Lane - 4,334
8. Horimiya - 3,740
9. Quintuplets - 3,493
10. Redo of Healer - 3,015

The best comparison is something like Uzaki-Chan which is getting a second season. If that got a second season, what are the metrics for that compared to Nagatoro?

Does this show still suck? I dropped it after episode 1 because the episode was pure torture porn.

I think the show is pretty funny once you get past the first two episodes...hell, it even becomes sorta heart-warming later...
