I hope they can reopen it after the remodeling of the building is finished.

that its Sega Ikebukuro GiGO arcade in Tokyo will permanently close

Doesn't sound like that is in the cards. It would be nice if it did happen, but it doesn't seem like they are planning for that. I would think that the retail property is already scooped up. Property is gold in Tokyo.[/quote]

I lived just down the road from this arcade in Ikebukuro for three years, and have a lot of good memories of it. I won a lot of figures from the crane games on the first floor (with the staff often helping me if I had trouble), and one evening when I was coming out of the exit of Sunshine City mall across from it, they had a special promotion where you got to roll a ball from the cage and (based on what color ball you got) get some tokens, a few small toys, and a couple of free credits to use the Taiko no Tatsujin machine.

There are still like 4 other arcades just in East Ikebukuro, and another one in West Ikebukuro, but it's stil sad that this place is going away. Sad

Sign of the times, Japan like last of the active Arcades with new machines and activities.

America, their old old machines and once a while massive one in a family center. Arcades are highly endangered place.
