I've never heard of the director before. I checked it out, and was surprised they've been active since the mid-2000s.
Sounds like the movie is an enjoyable watch for fans. Thank you for the write up.

it is considered the most important arc other than the ten masters clan arc and the graduation arc!
also I'm surprised that the reviewer made that into a negative considering that the main purpose of this was to remove that element completely.
after all, the revelation that both of them weren't really blood related siblings at all as well as tatsuya being maya's biological son were supposed to completely remove the entire whole incest angle within the series. which of course made some people within the japanese LN community happy, but made others not too happy. hell, those dissenters more or less blames the controversy ( & the severe backlash ) concerning the ending of the LN version of oreimo as the reason why the successor arc went with this angle. its so that mahouka's author wont face the same BS that oreimo's author did t

Wow. I actually didn't know the development went that way. In a way, that's quite impressive.

I'm not sure how you so grossly misunderstood that novels plot Maya is entirely lying to the entire family and later the world about tatsuya being her son. the novel makes that very clear to the reader. and its a lie she can get away with because even tho they are full siblings tatsuya's genetics are so heavily modified it cant be disproved. In fact it is the heavy genetic modification that makes it so they are siblings but also not really thereby skirting the line

@phoenix72
Actually: The one that was genetically modified was Miyuki. Maya refers to her as a "fully engineered magician." Maya assures Tatsuya that there would be no problem having children due to this complete genetic manipulation. The modification to Tatsuya was of the mind. See pages 142 to 146 of the novel.

thank you for correcting that. its been about a decade since i read the first half of the series so i must have fused the knowledge that both of them were modified into JUST tatsuya getting all the modifications as time passed. what matters to me is that i didn't hallucinate the memory that maya is blatantly lying to everyone and that one of them was so modified that it let Satō sensei have his cake and eat it too. im going to be honest that moment is kinda the only strong memory of volume 16 that i still have so the movies release is good timing. i could probably also do with a reread.

Your memory is similar to comments I have seen elsewhere. Apparently it is a common take on it. I saw the comments just before I read vol 16 so when I read something different it stuck with me. My bookcase is only a few feet from my computer so it was easy to look up. Basically both of them have been messed with for the benefit of the family.

which was why myself and others who like the "romance between blood related siblings" genre think that the author did a massive cop out. of course fans who dont like actual incest genre, but like tatsuya and miyuki as characters were delighted during this arc. and of course those two were happy about this arrangement as well during the middle part of the ten masters clan arc
but to be honest, we kinda knew that the author was gonna put in a cop out type of a plot in order for those two to get together by not making them blood related.
especially considering how both of them are horrified of the practice when they discovered the truth of the birth parents of kudo's grandson during the ancient city insurrection arc!
