I suppose it was inevitable. I always knew they were going to change a ton of stuff but it's pretty unrecognizable from the first-person perspective and Claire being kidnapped from an apartment instead of being captured after being a one-woman army gunning down an entire Umbrella facility. I think she looks better here than in the remake of 2 though. A bit closer to her original design.

Yeah, seems like this is shaping up to be a more radical remake than most of the prior ones. Well, outside of RE3R, maybe.

Guess I'll be postponing my playthrough of the original until I can play it right next to the remake. I did that last year with RE1 through RE4, and really enjoyed being able to compare-and-contrast. Well, outside of RE3R, maybe.

This is the kind of remake we need more of. Instead of trying to recreate perfection like with RE4, take a game that sucks like CV and give yourself a do-over

Nah, Code Veronica is great. A lot of people got filtered by the difficulty though so I imagine this will be a lot easier and hand-hold-y.

I do agree they should just go balls to the wall with remakes though. Don't even try to pretend they're like the original like the did with the past ones because these remakes clearly are not. This is the one to start doing that with since there's no way in hell they're keeping Alfred's crossdressing or the incest stuff or probably Steve's general annoying flirty macho attitude towards Claire.

Also just gonna say I appreciate them changing the name. Now when people say Code Veronica I know they mean the original and if they just say Veronica they mean this one. Maybe they realize people were annoyed by having to put a year after Resident Evil 2/3/4 less people get the originals or remakes confused.

After Requiem, I fully expect all future Resident Evil games to have free switching camera between 1st and 3rd POV. We may even get more active swapping between Claire and Chris the same way Requiem handled Grace and Leon.

As for the setting, Code Veronica's opening cinematic already takes place in Paris, so it's entirely possible that the game will begin with a playable sequence of Claire trying to escape Umbrella's European Branch. I would prefer it, actually, because that old cutscene was notoriously dumb and I've never been a fan of watching characters do things that aren't possible in actual gameplay.

You haven't heard about Alex in SF6, I take it? Let's just say Capcom clearly doesn't shy away from that stuff.

IGN kept corroborating every year since 2024 that a CV REmake is set for 2027 and Zero for 2028. Get your train tickets. The devs of REmake 3 and the DLC Separate Ways, who also did support work on REmake 4, are apparently on Zero duty and actually got time to develop their game this time. 3 RE teams can make near-yearly releases happen, or at least fill the gaps with DLC, just like CoD used to have before Activision started to experiment with one-year turnaround times, leading to 2 disasters. Dark days for Capcom will one day come again but not any time soon, if these 3 pillars can hold.

CV was outsourced in the late 90s and so were both Revelations games (+ REmake 3). It´s why advancement from RE3 aren´t featured and why it feels like a sequel to the very first game. Let´s see if abandoned ideas, such as the Nazi roots of the Ashfords, will be featured. Capcom, of all people, missing the Nazi Zombie craze during the enshitification-era of RE was quite ironic.

The SF 6 "incest patch" didn´t nerf that much btw. Unintentional transphobia is clearly not in the cards but I can see them going all in on incest, something the messy DC retelling shied away from. Capcom even stopped making Cero D versions for these games in Japan. They are dead set on keeping the IP a Hard-R.

The Ashford twins are twisted psychopaths so incest might be fine since it's portrayed negatively and creepily. Alfred pulling a Psycho and crossdressing as his sister probably less so. At the very least Claire isn't calling him a crossdressig freak anymore which is a shame cause that was a really iconic line. But they cut most of Leon's famous quips in the 4 Remake so I guess that doesn't mean much. I doubt they'd put in Nazi stuff if it was too controversial even back then since it'd be way to controversial now because social media would think Capcom was endorsing it or something

I liked old school RE4 but I’d highly hesitate to call it perfection. But other than that it’s always funny to hear people slag off on Veronica and 0 even outside of r/Residentevil.

None of the resident evil games are difficult by default they just had aspects poorly designed that can make things difficult.

Like in the original CV the encounter with Mutated Steve because of the fixed camera angle or going into the final boss fight without the magnum because you left the fire extinguisher on the Island.

The original RE0 had plenty of time and still felt like a half baked if not pointless game.

Anyone that got confused with the orignal RE games and their respective remakes simply weren’t paying attention to the different promotional art and the pictures on the digital storefronts

No it wasn’t it occupies the same level of stupidity as Barry’s Sandwich Line in the original game. People need to stop pretending all especially tacky dialog in old games is “cool”.

I think the most surreal thing is how soon every single game is going to be remade in such a short amount of time and in the same engine at this point. The original versions are all varied and spaced out so much but now we have Code Veronica running on the same engine as Resident Evil 3 when originally it was so cool to see Code Veronica on the Dreamcast after RE3 was on the PlayStation and pretty much the reason I even got a Dreamcast so I could play it and how new and updated it felt. This trailer looks no different than 7/8/Requiem or even the remakes of 2/3/4 to me.

How is that any worse from the 80’s when video games were made in under a year. Which could be 6 months or 6 weeks.

RE1 came out in 96
RE2 came out in 1998 1 year 9 months after the first game.
RE3 came out in 1999 1 year and 8 months after the 2nd game.
Code Veronica came out 4 months and 12 days behind the 3rd.

And keep in mind the orignal N64 version of Zero was supposed to come out somewhere between 2 and Code Veronica.

So yeah they were not spaced out by much and with the exception of Code Veronica looked largely the same and overall played largely the same.
