Haruhi: Japan's true cultural diplomat. Something needs to be said for a girl who can penetrate the Iron Curtain and infiltrate the Gaza Strip.

Assuming the candy makers didn't ask for permission, I predict lawsuits.

This reminds me of a Bollywood (Indian) movie that was almost exactly the same as the South Korean movie Old Boy. The Indian makers didn't ask for permission. They're under investigation for copyright.

Wow, they managed to make her facial expression even dumber looking.

I smell a copyright suit on the horizon. If KyoAni, who holds rights to that image of Haruhi (and Tanigawa as the original author, plus Ito for the original art) had intended this to happen, I'm sure there would have been some pre-notice of it. Will be very interesting to see how the Russians get out of this one. Laughing

Isn't this all part of her plan though?

It should be noted that the site has some less than safe for work ads. For instance, I saw a girl shove a carrot where the sun don't shine.

I don't see the resemblance at all.

But the heck is up with that facial expression? WOT?

I must be the only one who actually likes it. This one looks less flat and has a bit more detail, like lips. This will keep the solicitors in money for a while. Wink

Saw this a couple of days ago, and the first thing I thought was: well, at least it looks better than the Haruhi that the Chinese tried to draw for the Olympics.

Now that image was... wow, just ugly. At least this one looks like Haruhi.

It's hard to say if copyright laws apply to Russia Confused , only if the government signed a international treaty to help protect and enforce foreign copyrighted works. I know they have it with the U.S., but Japan might be different.

But if it is illegal, you bet your a** heads will roll over this.

That is unless it was done with permission, then I want some of that chocolate Wink .

Wow, I never expected this to make ANN. The scan was made by a friend of mine.
The waffles (not candy) in question are made in Belarus, not Russia (you can even see the website address www.minskhleb.by on the scan). They have a whole series of anime themed waffles Smile

The source ANN quotes is Japanese though, so I'm curious how THEY first found about this - maybe the Elevens like to idle on 4chan during work? Very Happy
