They should just legislate that they must be sold in plain brown paper bags.

If it's one thing that young japanese women would never carry around, it's unfashionable bags.

Well, I don't support limiting oneself to what one is able to read. Although, in this situation it's just to have the magazines in question if it is in view of the minor's sight. Just remove the magazines from the section and put them in a different location with publications aimed at adults.

I think this is a good idea. At any rate, I'm a stupid gaijin who can't read Japanese and would barely be able to tell whether the random girly-looking not-a-big-name magazine I pick up off the shelf is innocent or full of pseudo-porno content. While I assume that a real Japanese girl will have a better ability to differentiate, heck, the covers REALLY don't give very much hint...

In Japan - I wonder if being on a watchlist as "harmful" is effectively an advertisement, as it might be in other parts of the world. Confused

So...what happens to them? Do they have to be pulled down? Moved to a different section? Plastic wrapped? Or is this just a general information list?

I like how all but one has the word "renai" in the title.

Confused What does 'renai' mean? My Japanese isn't good enough to know what to look up in the dictionary.

恋愛 【れんあい】 (n,vs) love; love-making; passion; emotion; affections

I think it's basically just "romantic love" as opposed to familial or platonic love.

So why can't they wrap them and/or put them in another section for mature material?

I don't know about how things are in these stores, but they'd have to either set up a new section for this sort of publication or put them by 'other' sorts of mature titles, ones which some people may not want look as if they're buying.
Plastic sounds a good idea, so long as recycling facilities exist.

IMO, it's good that they're trying to keep 18+ material from minors' eyes, but "harmful" seems like a weird choice of word. "Inappropriate" maybe? Confused

I can already guess what types of comics they are.

They are those smutty rape=love comics.

I wouldnt call them harmful but instead retarded and practically hentai even if the girlies dont wanna admit it. I read a few before. Eye rollers they were. They might as well just get to the sex and get it over with.

They all have the same plotlines as well and characters. Just minor differences.

Whats even more disturbing is seeing comments on forums about how romantic they are.

Romantic my ass. Just admit they got you wet and get it over with.
