The thing I've been wondering (sorry if it was addressed) is why the light novels aren't numbered?

I'm pretty sure they are in the original, and they SHOULD be read in order... so why wouldn't they have volume numbers?

Because the companies releasing them expect the audience to be able to magically figure it out or devote time to searching the internet to figure it out. Of course, few people are going to put that kind of effort into figuring that out. If they see a series and have little knowledge or interest in it, not knowing where to start is going to be a quick and easy way to dismiss it and move on to something else.

Really though, I have no idea why they wouldn't put volume numbers on books that are part of a series and are not stand alone by any stretch.

This story is very nice especially the novel but in different angle, this story is totally confusing. The only thing i know about is Flamehaze is good and guze no tomogara is evil.

Never, most like. Translating novels isn't the most profitable business; it's time consuming, and the skills required are in quite short supply and thus expensive. More expensive than translating manga; hell, more expensive than simply grabbing a synopsis and ordering a new novel written.

And all this money has to be made back from sales that have been... disappointing. I've heard rumours that one title [probably good witch of the west, sob] had sales measured in the mid hundreds, which, yeah, you do the numbers.
