I still have my doubts about this one. If it flops it'll hurt chances for other anime based films to get made. If it succeeds, then we'll get more and hopefully better franchises getting pushed into consideration.

Personally I hope it is so bad that it's fun. That in and of itself is a difficult task. Some moves are bad but fun, (yeah that move was bad but it was fun time waster) some are just plain awful, (Uwe Boll anyone?), and some are so bad that they become fun like the old Grindhouse and "B" Movies.
I remember the first Mortal Kombat movie was a bad movie but I still say it was okay and I have fun watching it all these years later. The 2nd MK movie I perfer to avoid like the plague cause it was so god awful. My hope is that the Dragonball movie achives first MK movie level of entertainment.

I really hope this movie isn't as going to be as bad as some think this will be. There is more than enough bad anime adaptations out there. This movie would be quite disrespectful to the fans and Mr. Toriyama if done poorly.

I do hope for positive results though.

Wednesday release, lol. FOX knows this thing is going to be an absolute flop. Moving it to a Wednesday guarantees that it's the only movie premiering that day. If they stuck to April 10, they'd be going up against three others.

Kotaku had a leaked still from the movie showing Goku as some kind of alien thing... noone knows what it's supposed to be.. Is it FOX's vision of a Super Saiyan, or Ozaru form? Or is Goku turning into Piccollo??? Whatever it was it's not in any DB or DBZ or DBGT universe that I've ever seen...

I'm going for the 'shaved-Ozaru mid-transformation' theory.

I think theres a 99% chance of this movie failing but theres still the one percent chance of it becoming a hit. Lets hope it becomes a hit.

Actually, no. Moving it up to Wednesday on the Easter holiday weekend (which is always a busy movie weekend) shows they have great confidence on it. There are not that many films moved up to a Wednesday release, and all those are films that studios and theatre owners** have great confidence on.

[** Because convincing theater owners to dedicate screens to a movie 2 days early means closing screens on other films, that they could be making money on, 2 days short.]

Whether or not it'll be a success is another matter though. But at least their confidence means it'll get a media blitz and possibly a good opening week just because of that.

If the pictures that have shown up elsewhere are any indication, then this is just going to off on so many things. Enough so that it'd probably be impossible for me to enjoy it. Hopefully this is not the case, but I really am disappointed by what I've seen.

It's official. The guy making the decisions on this film is bipolar. Either that, or he doesn't mind making DB 2009's Grindhouse.

enurtsol: If they had that kind of confidence in it, it would've been released this year. But even Twilight looks more professional than it. Laughing

This could be more of a technical issue, if it was delayed because they think the special FX and post-production could be improved. Once they missed their initial target date, it could be difficult to reschedule within the busy year (theater slots are scheduled well in advance - this isn't like Japan when Gainax could just reschedule Eva: Rebirth because they didn't finish the first Eva movie in time), and if they want to keep their late Spring window.
