Now, now... As tempting as it may be to do so, let's not trash the movie before we have a chance to see it.

So, since I live in Japan, and the movie opens here 1 month before the US, that means the task of going to see the film and then warning others on this forums that live in the US of how absolutely horrible it is and how they most definitely should not go see it no matter what is left to me?

While I think hair color doesn't matter all that much *cough*Misa*cough*. Didn't the actress say in an interview after the shooting of the movie was finished that she "finally washed the blue color out of her hair"? So it might be some dark blue.

If not I still prefer black over Bluma's anime hair color. That doesn't work all that well in live action ... Ayane in Dead or Alive looked so fake with purple hair x_X

Damn my morbid curiousity... stupid link...

So, what, putting Evolution after the name of the source material allows them to completely hack the actual story to pieces? If they'd at least not changed the origins of the Dragonballs and who Goku is and where he came from (as it appears they have), I'd be willing to look past superficial character changes. But after watching that, it looks like a really, really bad B movie with a special effects budget. Though, I guess with it's release date, lots of drunk and stoned college kids will find it hilarious to go and laugh at how bad it is. As long as Fox makes money, what do they care what people actually think of the movie. They're too busy trying to screw WB over on Watchmen.

I've refrained from saying anything about this movie until I'd actually seen footage, and that time has come. Have fun with your fail, Fox.

Isn't that what an adaptation is?

Lord of the Rings had a movie adaption, too, but they didn't change the story much (only details). However, it's also possible to change some things completely, when you adapt a theatre play, for example.

Well, I guess I am going to see this movie anyway. If it's bad, I can bash it, if it's good, I will have some fun. And Ayumi Hamasaki totally rocks.

This appears to be a film I could enjoy, if it were played at double speed dubbed into an obscure language. I found 300 quite amusing that way.

That was my original stance on the movie as well. The character design changes didn't bother me and I understood them to an extent. Now I need some aspirin after seeing it in motion.

I've read/heard people compare the DB film to Mortal Kombat's 1995 adaption, probably because of the martial arts involved. I wouldn't say that since the MK film was a little more faithful to the original source material. If I were to compare this to another adaption, I'd go with the abominable Super Mario Bros. from 1993. That movie had about as much in common with the videogames as the DB movie does with the manga/anime.

I'll see the movie anyway. I'll probably imagine Joel or Mike, Tom Servo, and Crow sitting in the front row of the theater, but I'll see the movie anyway.

Am I the only one who saw this trailer and was like "OH SHIIIII AWESOME"?

I am going to stay positive for this movie. If it turns out to suck, I will be man enough to admit that I was wrong. If it turns out to rock, I bet most people here will not be man enough to admit that.

A lot of fans are nitpicking about details like.... character appearances or whatever. I think the first thing that jumped to my mind was that Goku totally wasn't brimming with confidence. Isn't that.... kind of more important as an adaption failure? orz

Out of curiosity, have any of you actually seen the theatrical trailer? It was just streamed recently. Take a look:

Now you can say whatever you think.

I've tried to remain as positive as I can for this movie, I really have. But that trailer revealed quite a few disappointments to me. "Seven mystics banded together to create the Dragonballs"? So that means they decided to throw the whole concept of Kami away for this movie. "We have to find the Dragonballs before the eclipse!" This makes it sound like there is some kind of supernatural disaster going on. Bulma has black hair. Master Roshi has a full head of hair, and yet no beard. The list goes on...

I don't think it's fair to call this movie an adaptation of Dragonball - it's more of a crazy fanfic set in an alternate universe.

If you ask me, it's a Dragon Ball movie in name only.

Exactly.

Besides, the director really has no real obligation to the fans to adapt something perfectly. If people go into adaptation expecting everything exactly the same as the original source material or keeping many things intact, then they're essentially setting themselves to be disappointed. Heck, I was a little bummed out that the original story wasn't going to be adapted, but hey, I can live with that.

Barring repeated, non-stop praise that would (very) slowly raise my expectations, I go into everything I watch with moderate-to-low expectations. This way, I'll be able toenjoy those supposed crappy movies/series, and still be impressed by the good ones. And this is how I'm going to approach the Dragon Ball movie.

Ayu is overrated anyway. Her number of good songs (aka ones in which her singing can be tolerated) can be counted on both hands, her voice is nasally and awful, and her songs have good melody but would probably sound 10x better if another singer were performing them. At least it's Ayu, so she get's the "package price" up on selling the movie to an otaku audience. I'd be ashamed if an amazing artist (*cough* Hikki) was associated with this instead.

Nothing against Ayu as a person though, she's a great performer, and for the level of fandom she receives she's not *as* much of a standoffish typical popstar as I'd expect her to be.

Oh and as for the film. Hmm. I wonder if the word "saiyan/saiyaman" even crossed the thoughts of the ones making this. How can you screw up source material that bad?? And Picollo just looks ridiculous. Even the worst cosplay I've seen looks better than that.

I think its already been comfirmed that they aren't going to make the characters look excatly the same as they did in the manga/anime.

Personally I think thrashing a movie before its even out is just a load of buttocks.

Could you ask your students what they think of Dragonball Evolution? I'm interested to know their take on it.

I said this a while ago.It shares names in common, nothing more. Now we get to add it to the "too bad we'll never get a Dragonball movie,no not the Chinese one,and no,not the recent American one.An actual Dragonball movie."

Fans should go "Yes!" Instead of "Wha"?.

Fox is riding on name alone. This will no doubt spawn a whole new set of fans,we'll get to argue with in the near future. Can't wait.
