娘 doesn't mean cat, it means "girl." While "nyan" is the Japanese version of "meow," in this instance it is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese "niang," since Ranka Li works at a Chinese restaurant.

Nyan isn't the Japanese word for cat, it's the sound that cat's make.
"-scretto" doesn't come from the Japanese word for secret, it comes from the English word for secret... secret. Great Job ANN A+++++ News Source Yeesh. |

There's no "s" in "-cretto" and the magazine's name is written in both Japanese and English. The part of the Japanese name that corresponds with "-cretto" has the Japanese word for secret. |
