Maybe not, but if it wasn't approved of at all then KnJ or Strike Witches wouldn't have been allowed to be made and circulated into the mainstream. It caters to an audience and I haven't seen any major movements besides the internet to try and stop these publications or animations. |

Well are they really mainstream outside of Akiba? I know that the all the otaku know about it but it's not like it's being shoved down the throat of all of tokyo or something. Am I right in saying that most people wouldn't even recognize these shows if they saw them?

Umm, if they were just in Akihabara then we wouldn't have known about them ourselves. |

But we are a part of the international anime communtiy. We follow what's happening in Akihabara because that is our hobby, it's not like it can't be spread to other places if you are looking for it. There aren't huge advertisements for Strike Witches in Japanese newspapers right? There aren't huge billboards with the KNJ girls posing in their underwear. It's just not something everyone is aware of. It's not mainstream.
Btw: apparently someone from toon zone (a staff member not just a member) spoke to Funi at the sakura con panel and they said they hadn't seen the DVD version of Strike Witches yet. Then they were pointed to Sankaku Complex |

SW was used (like sky girls for KONAMI) as an advertising project to sell Shimadas' mecha musume based toys and merchandise. They do not need to be mainstream, the market is big enough for them as it is...(big enough to warrant another season and a game coming out)...^^

@electronicmaji: No, you obviously overestimate it. Why do you think no one believed that funi wouldn't license SW? Because it was to wholesome? As for funi being one of ANN's biggest advertisement clients, aren't they pretty much the biggest client for just about every notable western site o,o? @zarkand: duno, I'd guess that if you add in the fact that SW is undoubtedly low priority for funi that Gonzo probably was rather realistic in negotiations. @egan loo: Actually it's generally the other way around. |

OMFG, I feel like a freaking idiot. Now I know what's what, and I just totally feel like a freaking idiot. I completely had Strike Witches confused with another series, how could I be so stupid So, I'm going to go ahead and pull out of this thread now, and leave the rest of you guys to wallow in the continuation of your conversations and debates.

EPIC CONFUSION!
that wins the thread in my books... since it was brought up, Tweeny Witches is great... awesome story, unique animation and not a hint of fanservice to be seen. unless you count cross dressing pirates as fanservice ... EDIT: though they should have left the name Magical Girl Squad: Alice (or Arice)... or something similar... i think that's my real issue with Strike Witches... loli or not, i think it's too fanservice driven for a serious show... which is a bit of a shame... since whilst the concept is silly.... shows with silly concepts usually turn out to be the best kinds of shows... |

Neither would I.It would definately not flop and it'll help if it showed on TV However,People was litteraterly begging AS to show Ranma 1/2 along during the inuyasha craze, but to no aveil. Guys changing to girls is definately a no no to their eyes so a lolicon series will probably not happen though i would seriously like for it to happen. Unfortunately AS needs new anime series, even if it means pissing off the censors a bit to keep people interested since bleach is taking to slow to reach to the Hueco Mundo arc. Not to mentioned the broadcast for Naruto on it's sister channel is on Hitaus mode, whatever that means. My best bet,is that either Strike Witches will be shown on IFC Channel which is the best thing or online on it's site but i'm afraid that cursed FCC might have something to say about that cause of it's lolicon tendicies.hopefully something can be done to help this series succeed in the US probably at least give them (FUNI) enough confidence to license it's OVA or other ecchi/loli series, especially kodomo no jikan. |

Strike Witches will not be shown anywhere anyone who doesn't already know about can find out about it. That means the Funimation Channel, IFC and certainly not AS(you see that crowd likes their women more like Rangiku or Villeta)
@Fighterholic Wow. I used to get the two confused until I actually saw Strike Witches. Never got them confused again, I hear Tweeny Witches is a rather good series and doesn't have any little girl fan service. |

Who gives a fudge who expected what. Expectations do not equal reality. Pantsu animes are popular in the usa whether you like it or not. |

No, no they aren't they constantly fail as do all loli anime supposed to appeal to men. They had to market Moon Phase as a shojo series to make it work and Kiddy Grade was a miracle. Have you ever seen Popotan or Mouse on any best selling lists?
