I was wondering where the manga samples would be! I didn't see any on the actual website.

Is this something that they come out with every year? I've never really followed the free manga day evets at all, but at my job there's been quite a few people who tried to sell us the free Shonen Jump samplers. Of which we have to turn away of course because they say "not for resale" on the back.

It's a shame Stan Lee's not doing any signings for FCD this year, though. Crying or Very sad

Is this Ultimo series looking any good? To be honest, that Stan Lee had input in this actually turns me off, considering he hasn't really produced anything worthwhile in the last years.

the style is odd actually. it doesn't even look like a manga, it looks like a comic (narration boxes for example). as far as content, i thought it could have been better. the characters seem way too over the the top.

Is this the only manga related "Free Comic Book Day" thing? Is there not anything from Yen Press or CMX. Or anything?

I am not to interested in Ultimo, however. I will give it a try if I see it in Shonen Jump. Or hell, I got time, I will go read that free preview they mention in the article. *Goes to read*

Despite my prodding, my BF staunchly refused to visit any comic shops after work to look for the SL sampler. I'd like to know if the Ultimo stuff is rehash too (I did rather like that sample chapter, so I'm pretty bummed it went AWOL after that.)

Worthless except for the Stan Lee pin-up.

It was the exact same chapter Shonen Jump published earlier this year minus some pages. The series starts in SJ next issue.

No kidding. I mean, if FCBD is supposed to be about getting people into series by offering them first chapters, this probably made people not want to buy it.

I mean, I suppose they figured that it would be more popular because of 1) the Stan Lee connection and 2) it's in full-color, but couldn't they have worked out some way to publish the first chapter of, say, "Pluto"? Or something else that would better represent the best of the manga Viz has to offer?

Ah well... *goes back to ogle the first chapter of "Preacher" she picked up*

Just happened to hit the mall Saturday and noticed the sign (having completely forgotten this was coming up) ... didn't see this one, or anything else of interest, but didn't stick around to flip or get signatures.
