Why disassemble it at all? It should be a permanent fixture.

Well, I'm just glad they made it so it can be disassembled and not demolished. Maybe they'll find a better place for it that would be safer from typhoons.
Or it could go on tour

The statue was built and it was already placed, it's not like you have to pay to see it, so why take it down? They won't gain or lose anything one way or the other, keep the general public happy and otaku tourists too.

If IOC awards Tokyo the hosting privileges for the 2016 Summer Olympics about a month from now, all the more reason for Tokyo to leave it up. C'mon...a life sized Gundam has Michael Phelps' and Usain Bolt's awesomeness combined and multiplied by 20! All it's gonna do is continue to attract otaku tourists...that can't be bad for Japan's economy.
Seconded. Do want. Really do want. I wonder how much space would need to be cleared out in Millennium Park or Navy Pier (or somewhere on the lakefront) so Chicago can give a traveling mecha a temporary home? |

Taking it apart I think is necessary yet cruel. All the king's horses and men couldn't put a Gundam back together but Japan can.

It's to bad about the closing ceremony. But, its really great that the number of people that came to see it over the 2 months is so much higher then what the planners expected.
