Congratulations to those Shin-chan fans that wanted the manga to last a little longer.

Really surprised that this is still possible. It's a shame that this had to happen. I'm a bit late as I didn't find out about his death until the week of NYAF '09. I had been following the info leading up to him missing but did not expect the worse. Again, my thoughts go out to his family.

Sad

I agree I prefer to see anime with the original language and subbed.

"died from injuries sustained in a fall"? ..."injuries"? He plummeted 300 feet to his death off a sheer rock face.

He died as he lived.

Yeah, I love highly topical Japanese cultural referances from 1998, too.

Sub vs. dub rants aside, I wonder Laura Bailey would feel about learning that the creator of one of her favorite characters has died.

Whenever a popular author dies, there's always the inevitable rush to sift through his papers to try to see if there's anything left of his work to publish. Sometimes you hit paydirt and you find entire complete stories that were just never submitted for publication. Other times you just find some random notes and outlines and someone at the publisher's tries to stretch them into a whole work so they can stamp the author's name on it one last time.

So I wonder how complete these manuscripts were when they found them; if they were ready to submit or if they needed to be tweaked before publication.

As an aside, I reading that remember Dave Sim (Canadian comic author and completely insane recluse) was scared of this happening. He wanted his series to last 300 issues no matter what, so he actually drafted a legal document specifying that if he died, they would publish up to the last inked page of his series, and then print BLANK PAGES for all the remaining issues. Luckily the series ended with him still alive.
