I think both were dreamed up together but the manga* was released first.
*Posted and then checked the dates on the products. What a mistake. |

The anime was planned before the manga was drawn, but the manga was released before the anime started airing. So yes, manga was published first, but the concept and plot was written for the anime first and adapted for the manga. |

Unless you don't understand any Japanese whatsoever, in which case it's a waste of your money. I know, support the industry and all that jazz, but their are more fiscally responsible ways of doing it than paying however much yen it is per BD for something you won't even be able to follow. |

I knew it was something to that effect. Manga being the source is just so typical I was a bit turned around by the fact Heroman TV seems to be ready made to US TV while the Heroman manga adds in more Japanese culture. |

IF I had the cash AND time, there are definitely certain shows I would have bought IF they had at least English subtitles. The fact is that even now, with the economy as bad as it is, most Japanese producers are not interested in making English translations of their shows easily available. It's enough for them to market in Japan and try to break even. That's why anime is so much more expensive in Japan. IF their strategy was to sell more anime outside Japan, it would be watered down more and more generic and probably cost more than it does now. And there'd still be no guarantees of breaking even.... even if they did count on international licensing to help subsidize their production costs. They're relying (perhaps too much) on licensing partners to take care of the localization (dubbing/subbing) of anime. The problem with that is that rabid fans and bootleggers aren't willing to wait that long. By the time a series gets to the West, it could have exhausted a good chunk of the potential audience thanks to the Internet and fanime groups. ******** My other problem with BD is just how horribly it's being used for anime. Most of you do know the majority of anime TV shows released on BD are still upscales from 480p??? What's the point of paying extra for a hi-res copy if it LOOKS worse than Standard-Def!?!? The other thing is how at least at one series has been released in the US WITHOUT the Japanese language track and with fewer episodes per BD! The release of Gundam Unicorn exclusively on Amazon.com is almost as bad, too... One thing after another! Obviously, BD is nowhere near replacing DVD sales or picking up the slack any time soon... |

To clarify, this is true in North America, not true in Japan.
If done properly it will look better than DVD due to the higher bitrate encoding BD offers. This is more relevant on series with lots of motion, such as explosions, but it also applies to things like eliminating the compression artifact fuzz around characters' hair often seen in DVDs. I see complaints about post-processing Funimation has done on theirs, though. |

Nine volumes huh? Interesting....so that's about what, 27 episodes? Er no, 26. I thought for sure this show would be 51.
I wonder if that's to make room for the Bones project that was just announced? |
