The funny thing is even if she was starving to death and was begging her fans to stop pirating her manga they would just laugh at her, pirate more of her works, and continue calling themselves fans. And then even justify what they did.

And I seriously doubt people want to [pay the cost of shipping] after the S&H fees kick in.

I was thinking of getting the entire series of OverRev! and My Favorite Carerra, and you know what the S&H was? $400.00 for $150.00 worth of manga!

Airmail or surface book shipping?

And of course, there's a growing amount of manga available for digital download, and the freight on that is quite reasonable.

Referring back to my previous post on merchandise markups in America....

$400 for $150 worth of manga is about 2.6~2.7.

Sorry, but you can't help the shipping costs, the Yen to Dollar exchange rate, and other taxes.

I just got free shipping from Yes Asia. Do not know if it pertains to you or if they have what you want. Air mail, of course. I had to get the new artbook from the creator of the Persona series. I seen a few samples of the book, and it looks sweet.

I thought someone said we were on page 30. It is only 28. I feel ripped off.

And ~3.6x the original, what, $4? $5? So its $15~$18 per volume.

That's not "its unavailable", that's "I don't want to pay it or can't afford it". I was used to paying over twice the price for paperbacks in Oz as they are in the US. But then, I was full time in Oz, so I could afford as many paperbacks as I had time to read.

Edit: and as others have already noted, there are opportunities to buy with lower shipping costs. Between slow boat shipping and the various venders that ship containers at a time and so have much lower per volume shipping costs, a lot more is available a lot more readily to anyone who can read the blog as written than has been suggested.

Someone exaggerating. In an ANN piracy thread. I am shocked ~ SHOCKED ~ that there is gambling going on in this casino.

Oh, we'll get to page thirty.

But yeah, I mean, you can't really help it. Anime hyper

But then I recently found out that the bootlegging industry is largely made up of Chinese mobsters...anyone else know that? Pirated DVD and plushy operations are run by the Triads. lol

EDIT

You don't wanna support them, they already make bank off of farming gold on WoW.

I saw an news article talking about this husband and wife duo who started doing the gold farming on WOW. They later got their relatives involved and was making close to $200,000 a year with their business. And it is all a violation of WOW user agreements and get you banned. For that money, they just start another account. I do not know if the money amount is what I remember or not. So don' t quote me on it.

That actually is a complicated legal issue as well. Blizzard actually wants the gold to have no value in real life so they won't be taxed for it (as an intangible asset by the IRS) Also add in other fun complications makes it a tangled mess.

For that amount, sh*t, I should sell my studio and start my own gold farming business...or maybe I should start a restaurant and sell special gyoza with cardboard fillings (to cut costs, obviously), or fake eggs. Lol the Chinese will bootleg everything.

Bet one day they'll find a way to bootleg even bootlegged or other illegal items. "Yes, I'll see you this girl...she will be great slave. Only $100." Then she turns out to be made of plastic and duct tape.

All these companies and creators are really getting upset now at all of the illegal showings and uploads. Thats how i get into the show though. Sorry, but after i watch it online and like it i may go and buy it depending on price and language. Sorry if you don't get to eat right away, but i promise you will get your money in the end

Same here.

On a side note, I'm nothing short of stunned at the idiocy and immaturity so many ANN forum posters here have shown in their responses to this.
I mean, Jesus Christ, people! It's not 'stupid' or 'overly dramatic' of her to say she might not be able to continue her series if so-called "fans" continue to view Black Butler illegally even now, when it's being broadcast AND released through legal means. It's like the folks who still view scanlations of Bleach or Naruto. I mean, for f*ck's sake. What more can the companies do to get fans to play it straight?

Alrighty, it took me a while but I've translated Toboso sensei's blog entry in its entirety. I hope it gives a better feel for Toboso sensei's thoughts. If you read it, I think you will understand that she is NOT "berating" her fans or anything like that. She didn't want to write this kind of entry in the first place but she couldn't just keep quiet about it anymore. In the end she even cracks a couple jokes.

Anyway, here goes! If you have any suggestions or corrections, please let me know.

From Toboso sensei's 8/15 blog entry:
Quote:
I don't really want to preach, but lately I've been getting a lot of these messages so I'd like to say a few words. Perhaps it's because it's summer vacation?

First off...

Viewing the Kuroshitsuji anime, or Kuroshitsuji II on video sites other than official distribution video sites is illegal and prohibited.
(Kuroshitsuji, both the first and second seasons, are currently being streamed on Nico Nico Douga's Nico Nico Channel.)

Reading the manga Kuroshitsuji via publications other than Square Enix's publications within Japan (illegal downloads, CD-ROM, etc) is prohibited.

From quite some time ago, though recently they've become much more frequent, I've been receiving fan mails and letters saying things such as:

"I borrowed a ROM from a friend and read it www" [TN: w = warai, which means to laugh, so "w" or "www" can be interpreted as "LOL"]
"I searched overseas video sites and watched all of it!"
"I became a fan of the second season so I watched the entire first season via an overseas video site w It was really interesting!"

This is without a doubt illegal.
It is the same as stealing or dining and dashing.

If you illegally view or illegally download, we creators and voice actors will not be able to eat and it's no joke, we will starve and die.
It is no laughing matter.
[Literally: It is not "www."]

These types of letters are being sent to authors and seeing the decline in morals sends a chill down my spine.
Sending letters like this to me is the same as saying,
"I really love Kuroshitsuji! But I want those involved in its creation to starve and die★"
It really makes me shiver. There's a limit to how bizarre things can get...
I'm extremely happy to hear that my work is enjoyable, but people are working hard to make to create this enjoyable work.
Is this not being precisely understood?

It's not only limited to Kuroshitsuji. Anime and manga themselves are "works" created by humans.
Anime characters are not moving of their own accord simply due to our will alone.
Many people are involved in creating the story, animators draw thousands and tens of thousands of illustrations, voice actors add the voices, and only then is life given to the character.
Manga is created in the same manner. Writers wrack their brains thinking of a story and draw one panel at a alongside their assisstants.

Everyone has the right to enjoy watching and reading anime and manga.
However, we who create them are human and cannot live without eating.
In order to eat, "money" is necessary. This is a given, right?
As a job, we create works that people can enjoy, and as compensation in order to survive, we receive payment from the money earned via things such as fees from paid videos, money from DVDs, goods, comic books, etc that people pay.

You missed an episode, or you forgot to record an episode... This happens often, right?
I understand how frustrating it is. I often have to bear it myself.
For students, especially elementary schoolers who cannot do part-time jobs, it must be difficult to purchase DVDs and BDs. I understand this very much.
However, that does not make it an excuse.
If you missed an episode, you should watch a paid video or go to a rental shop.
I think you can view an episode for 200-500 yen. For that price, you could pay by using your pocket money, or how about helping out [around the house] and receiving a reward from your parents?
It goes without saying for adults. If you're a working person, please pay.
Well, if I don't have that money, does that mean I can watch for free?
The answer to that is "No."
That action, if I may quote a certain Fullmetal somebody, goes against the Law of Equivalent Exchange!
If those actions continue, we will not be able to create anime or manga, no joke.
Because it goes against the Law of Equivalent Exchange, of course there will be a rebound.
Even if things are okay now, in the not-so-far future, the probability that it'll become something outrageous is very high.
The number of cool anime on TV being 0, for example.
In all worlds, rules exist.
In order for everyone to enjoy fun entertainment not limited to just Kuroshitsuji, please follow the rules and live an enjoyable 2D life.

Well, I've rambled a bit, but to sum it all up...

Illegal videos + downloads are no good, no exceptions!

But first, works broadcast on TV are free to watch so please work hard in order to not miss an episode! (laugh)
And if you felt it was enjoyable or that you want to see the continuation, DVDs, rental, official goods, CDs, anything is fine. Even just 1 thing is fine.
Please buy the related merchandise of series you're interested in.
That will have an effect on the series' future, as well as the anime and manga industries' future.
We continue to work hard so you may enjoy our works and think "I'm glad I bought it," so please support us.

I've wrote all this, but I am not condemning video websites.
There are many wonderful cultures and works born from these websites, such as self-produced songs and performances, dances, and videos.
However, if illegal actions continue, even these enjoyable websites may become prohibited by law.
I don't want this to happen, and this is why I've written this preachy entry today.
I'm sorry it's not a fun entry!

I'll resurface again around the time the next GF [TN: G Fantasy-- the magazine Kuroshitsuji is serialized in] is released.
With a correction for a misprint that is...! (This wasn't a very fun discussion either.)

Thank you very much.Very Happy That would help a lot. But if it's in Japan, wouldn't there be a sort of language barrier when it comes to ordering?

For Amazon.co.jp, you have the option to do ordering all in English, but Amazon don't give the bonus items nor it has the best shipping price.

However, there are sites in Japanese will take foreign orders that send out the bonus items or have better shipping price, but yes you have to deal with the order system all in Japanese. I have ordered from Kinokuniya and Mangaoh club, I actually like them more than Amazon.

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but www.bookdepository.com carries the Black Butler manga (as well as many others) and has free shipping to many places all over the world.

どういたしまして。
何ページ前に書かれた通訳、あまり枢先生の意思が伝わってないと思ったから自分で訳してみました。これでファンの皆さん枢先生の想いを理解できるといいんですけどね。
