Plug in "unaired episode DVD" in Google and watch the number of shows that get unaired episodes get added to DVDs. Even My Little Friendship is Magic included an unaired episode on it's DVD release. |

Except those episodes tend to not air for a reason.
Anime just cuts out the last episode for no other reason than to charge you for them on the BD. You wanna see the ending (lets ignore the fact that Japan can't write good endings nornally)? Too bad, wait 3+ months and buy the BD, bitch! |

Sometimes it's not even an ending...just side-story of sorts or something like that. So, it's essentially a OVA. Of course, sometimes it also continues the story so it all depends on the adaptation. |

But not being part of the domestic audience and not being fluent in Japanese you lack the necessary exposure to sources that typically give such a reason like; broadcasters, magazines, interviews, tweets, blogs, etc. ANN and other English sites can only aggregate so much. I don't know where you're coming from with the whole 'Japan can't write good endings normally' remark because unaired episodes included on discs like this aren't endings to the anime but tend to be filler, specials, or maybe an alt ending. |
