So am I right in saying that this is actually the very first year that ACE has put on a convention? If I remember correctly ACE is the combined result of the staff exodus from TAF, concerned fans, artists and studios that wanted to support something new because of Governor Ishihara's Bill 156 Youth Ordinance on manga and anime.

So back in late 2010 on, what progressed from there was that opponents of the bill noticed that would-be sponsors of the convention no longer wanted to take part in the convention because they knew its committee included the Tokyo Government and the party that created the bill that was viewed as a threat to the creativity and openness in expression that the anime industry has historically depended on.

So many sponsors backed out of participating in TAF that it looked like only a handful were actually going to show up. All of these anti-Bill 156 anime studios and creators banded together and the idea for a new convention, now known as Anime Contents Expo, was born.

Unfortunately shortly into 2011 the Great East Japan Earthquake and forthcoming tsunami/nuclear catastrophe happened and both TAF and ACE were ultimately cancelled.

As most booths at ACE were, Aniplex was selling limited-edition merchandise for many of these shows as well, such as Guilty Crown artbooks,

Dammit, I want that artbook.
