Quote: | You "still" think so? Did you mention it when I reviewed part two? Or do you mean it's not OK to continue to praise good parts of Naruto, even though it was good at one time? I'm kind of a Simpsons super-fan, but only for seasons 3-6. I love Naruto, but only episodes 30-100. Subsequent episodes of either series lower the average rating of the show. Back in 2000 I found that pretty upsetting, because I loved the Simpsons so much. 12 years later, I'm kind of numb to it. |
I just recently joined the forums so I haven't read too many articles such as your review of part two. I should not have used "still" either in my response to avoid confusion. Now that you mention you were not referring to Naruto being excellent as a whole I understand how earlier parts of Naruto had really great pacing and developing of characters emotions. I would've been disappointed it if you actually thought Naruto's prolonged cat and mouse game with Sasuke was actually amazing.
I don't think you are numb to the Simpsons rather your measure of quality when it comes to comedy is no longer satisfied by the quality the Simpsons brings with every new episode. Newer shows like the Big Bang Theory makes the Simpsons less entertaining.
For the guy saying "Another" is hilarious is only correct if you try to put into context in your head how silly the curse can be when killing someone. "OMG I tripped and fell while I had an umbrella I wonder what's going to happen next?" "Wait is there a fire over there? I better check it out to be safe!"

Ratings/Views state otherwise or do you dismiss factual information as irrelevant to proving one's opinion? The Simpsons has been declining in views, while the Big Bang Theory is getting high ratings and views. Just look around the internet and I'm sure you'll draw the same conclusion.

Wow. We're of one mind on this.
I like Fairy Tail when it's silly, but Mashima's attempts at drama are seriously hit-or-miss.

Quote: | Another winds up on my short list of anime that needs a fan edit to be more watchable by Americans (along with Steamboy and One Piece). |
So this is the list to be watchable by Americans, rather than watchable in general? Because it certainly feels like a new title is being added almost every week. Not that there hasn't been a decent influx of re-/releases of One Piece this year, but still, it seems easier than qualitatively-quantifying "short."

I've seen Naruto and I absolutely hate it. It's just so boring and anticlimactic. Fairy Tail is a much better show in my opinion. So your whole, 'you'll enjoy it more if you didn't see Naruto', line doesn't seem accurate in my eyes. But that's just my opinion

I don't mind either fairy tail or naruto. I love the never give up theme in Naruto and I love the humor and fights in Fairy Tail. Both can be entertaining or boring at times. I plan on getting both on dvd when I get money lol. I think I would buy Another on dvd as well. I don't usually care about pairings but I ended up hoping Mei and Sakaki would live because they are cute together lol. I also enjoyed people dying and sometimes its just fun to watch. Hopefully that doesn't sound too wrong.

You can't mix factual information about how many viewers a show has with subjective opinions like how good a show is currently. Quite frankly, I think BBT dropped in quality quite a bit in the 4th season and beyond which ironically is when the ratings shot up through the roof. Not to mention 2.5 Men is still one of the highest rated comedies even though the show is no longer worth watching once Sheen left. Give me Community over those two's current runs any day.

I agree with the sentiment that things need to be "earned" in anime.
It was one of my problems with Prince of Tennis. It kind of bothered me that the main character was already some kind of super pro. It made his journey not so compelling, it made his rivals not so impressive, and it made his obstacles not so clear.
Not so with Hikaru no Go. Hikaru began from a place of total ignorance and, though he had a "secret weapon" (i.e., cheating via ghost), he gave up that crutch early on and started playing on his own. This show had a certain brutality and intensity that many fighting shows failed to achieve.

Man, instead of questioning the review of Fairy Tail, people are just panning Naruto

Fairy Tail has its moments, but I find some characters really irritating to the point of outright hating. Lucy is one I'd love to smack with a pimpstick and somebody needs to kick Elfman in the nuts. Personally, I think there are just way too many characters and the wild mood-swings in the series makes it hard to care about any character in particular. I think Mashima likes to troll the fandom, as others have said in past reviews. I'd say I like Fairy Tail, but I love Naruto better. I'm not sure I understand what Erin's problem is with the rest of Naruto, but hey she was singing the praises of that awful crap Yamada's First Time, which seems even worse than the worst Naruto filler episode.

Awesome, yet another poster with crap taste! Well, what to you expect from a Bible Belter who can't handle anything that isn't sanitized so that no hint of that nasty ole sexuality rears it's ugly head, right? In the unlikely event your tastes ever advance beyond the scope of 9-year-old boy's come back and talk with us adults. In the meantime, enjoy that Naruto filler.

As I said in another post, I like my porn hard and explicit. Like Zac, I felt the whole gag premise of Yamada chickening out at the last moment or something else to get boring after the 20th time. I have nothing but contempt for shows that tease and are nothing more than thinly-veiled soft-core porn (Yamada not so much as others, but still). I hate soft-core porn. Different strokes for different folks. Thus, since no anime is ever going to be made into high-quality, hard-core porn, I'll settle for as little of the sub-par teasing crap as possible, thank you.

Okay, so I was mistaken in assuming you had a problem with anything remotely racy. I can respect not digging softcore in preference of hardcore, I'm pretty much the same. I would say Yamada was making no attempt to titillate its viewers. The humour in Yamada didn't work for you? It did for me, including the running gag of Yamada freaking out every time they got close to the deed, but humour is notoriously subjective, so I can't really fault you for not finding a show funny that I did.

Perhaps I was a bit hasty in my irritation and lashed out at the closest thing. I don't really have that much of a problem with Yamada at all. I can understand where you are coming from, even if it isn't for me. So I'll just leave it at that.
