Crash wasn't Lynch, It was Cronenburg.

Cronenberg, actually. And I know that, I misspoke. I blame the exhaustion.

Wow, didn't realize the reactions to MGX were so strong, haha. I don't really follow the talkbacks for the preview guides--they move fast, cover a lot of ground (especially this season) and I don't usually have time to watch things day one anyway. I thought it was pretty weird (okay, really weird and kinda gross) for sure but wasn't as grossed out as I thought I might be (I haven't read the manga).

I guess it's like kinda how Bamboo was talking about Upotte; MGX is just so over the top that I found it more funny in its bizarreness (and deadpan seriousness) than gross. Either way, I can see how some people would be really put off by that (I mean, it's not like it's a panty flash or something quick or subtle you can ignore--but on the other hand, the actual imagery obfuscates the porn part unready mentioned enough to where I can take it at face value) but my curiosity has gotten the better of me on this one, at least for now.

That's really what it boils down to, I guess. It's not that I really thought the first couple episodes were good as much as that my curiosity was stronger than my revulsion.

On a related tangent, yeah, that Madoka thread did get pretty out of hand (my apologies if I contributed to what you called "shitting on each other" there) didn't it... a shame dtm42 wasn't there to make it even more fun, huh? Laughing

I suppose it was timing related --- but I was surprised at no mention of Tsuritama.

Like another poster, I liked the second Lupin well enough --- I liked the way they were using a classic noir plot with the femme fatale luring Jigen into doing/enabling her dirty-work. They also managed to find, in Atsuko Tanaka, a voice actress with an even more seductive voice than Miyuki Sawashiro. I'm looking forward to more.

I have so far avoided watching MGX, I wish I could say the same for medeka box though. three episodes in and I wanted to drop it after the last episode, and now I want to watch the fourth episode to see the male lead beat this Annoying bishonnen idiot who will most likely becoming a main character.

Just drop already if you don't like your not going to it took fifty chapters for them to change the formula. The manga became a successes so unless they change it "which is unlikely because that's a-lot of material to cut out" then you might just want to put it on hold.

Fun podcast. Although now my interest in Mysterious Girlfriend X has significantly lessened. Still gonna watch the first episode to see for myself, but my expectations have been drastically lowered.

I think these eps are my favorite, where it's just Zac, Justin, and Bamboo having a good time.

Not that I don't enjoy the others, but those usually feel more informative and educational, which is a different kind of good.

The whole MGX segment had me laughing at my desk, along with the image of a bunch of Zac clones happily patting bunnies while watching Polar Bear Cafe.

Looking forward to the Stream. Lots of luck, Bamboo!

It would have maybe been interesting to have had Theron in on the conversation. Not only did he compile the most reviews, as usual, but he gave MGX a 4.5. It would have just been nice to have someone point out that they only had one problem with the entire show and no matter how much you repeat your own personal disgust, reactions on the drool aspect will vary.

P.S. funimation offers a elite subscription which offers HD for most (if not all) of their simulcast in HD. Lupin maybe in HD as well.

Funimation does not post HD versions for subscribers until 1 week after Nico Nico's simulcast.

Despite recent developments (Nico Nico pulling many of their previous shows), that still holds true for Fujiko. I logged into my Elite account, but even the first episode was still the SD version with ads.

On Upotte!!, you'd have to go into it like you would with Strike Witches. If you can't over that they're in their panties the entire time, just don't bother. At least with Upotte, judging by the way the manga goes, there's a ton more action and fights with the AK girls down the road. The funny thing is that gunnuts are enjoying the show too and people are show an interest in purchasing firearms. We had that little discussion in the "K-ON influences guitar sales", and I do think Upotte might get otaku to purchase some airsoft replicas, and some westerns to buy the real things. Some weapons aren't much more expensive than good guitars, or more related, figures and Japanese import items. The real comedy of the show comes if you listen to Gunnery Sergent Hartman's spiel on treating your rifle like its your woman.

On Mysterious Girlfriend X, sorry to say to Zac, but the manga doesn't really go anywhere. But, and this it a but big but, the mangaka has stated several times that the storyboards for the anime are different and go other places, and that "he has to do his best to keep up with his comic". That gives me a lot of hope because that means the anime might actually go fun places. Sort of like what happened with Ga-Rei Zero and the manga it's based off it. About the spit, like I said before, if you get into some heavy make-out sessions, you have your tongue in another person's mouth, feeling their teeth and gums. That's pretty gross too if you actually think on it, but with the spit externalized and visible, there's another new sense added that doesn't sit well. If you could see x-rays of a couple french kissing, you'd also be grossed out.

I'm really digging this this season tremendously, but I agree that some shows are better left not being recommended to people who just won't like them even if for one detail. But Lupin, Jormungand, and Dusk Maiden are the few I would tell anyone to go check out. Maybe people will be turned off by Yuuko's sexual nature, but she is a lonely 65 year old ghost. The typical complaints I see about "this is not sexy" when talking about fanservice do not apply, there's no Yuuko isn't meant to be alluring and beautiful.
