Nothin' wrong with that! ^_^

...okay, I'm done now....

Good job. I wasn't terribly interested when I read it, but it is pretty amusing and could appeal to alot of people. I don't know if I would continue the series though.

Dude, am I the only person who finds this to be pedophilia? Seriously.

You're not the only one, Kagemusha. I knew there was a good reason to be creeped out by Loki...

It totally freaks me out just thinking of fangirls (boys?) getting hot over child yaoi. Anything involving child porn freaks me out. Junko Mizuno's art certainly has a pedophilic feel, but its not gratuitous or to give the reader pleasue, but to add to her already wacked out manga.

*sighs* And the Kinoshita freak must show her face.

First, Kantaro is actually in his late teens/early twenties. He looks younger than he actually is in the manga, but he'll start looking older as the manga goes along. The anime does a good job at actually making him look older.

And Sakura Kinoshita has been making doujinshi of Haruka and Kantarou for years now. I think *have haven't actually looked at any of them* they're for the most part her playing with the character designs before Tactics came out, but there are some she's made of Tactics itself. A friend tells me it brushes on shonen-ai, but until I get a copy I can't say. With it being a manga that runs in a guy manga magazine, I doubt kinoshita would be allowed to do any official shonen-ai with the two.

And before you guys start pointing out that Loki in her other manga is a kid, realise that the kid form is actually a sealed form. His true form is very much past puberty. And you can relax because he never really does anything to sicken people out while in the sealed form.

Would you be saying the same thing if it was a supposedly twenty year old girl who looked like a preteen?

Yes, I would. It happens all the time in manga. Characters, especially female, usually look much younger than what they are. Razz

Anyway, with Kantarou living alone without parents, and also having the job of a writer, as well as a yokai buster, I would think the reader would be able to get some idea that he's not some preteen kid. Not only that, but Haruka isn't THAT much taller than him, plus there's some of his habits, such as smoking. Anyone who reads the manga shouldn't put him under 16.

Sure, kinoshita draws him with big eyes and a more rounded face. Whoopee, he looks young. I'll point out here that in shonen-ai manga, the uke is usually the usual tall guy with a long face, and the seme usually takes on girl features, such as the rounded face and big eyes. With kinoshita's style she just happens to make him look chibi when not next to other people. It's actually rather understandable that for the past 5 years before Tactics, the only other manga she worked on was Loki, and in that she only drew two types of males: The usual tall with long face, and then little boys. When you compare Kantarou to the child version of Loki, Kantarou is obviously older.

Yea, but its still pedophilic images if people are making yaoi fanfics out of it. I don't buy into the "its not their true form" crap that some people use, male or female. There is a whole explanation for the almost casual portrail of a childs sexuality, but I don't feel like explaining it. I'll try to find a link to an essay I read about the subject.

Eh, you're probably right. I've never read it (nor will I - doesn't look like my thing), I was just judging it by the cover. When something looks borderline shotacon, I'm not inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt. That shit really, really bothers me.

Loki is still the male equivalent of Cardcaptor Sakura for me, though. If you're over a certain age and you like it (between 20-25, depending on the person), all my warning flags go up.

Ok, I'm not quite getting you. ANY male character in manga or anime, or any sort of thing with a fandom, is open to yaoi fanficion/doujinshi, whatever. It's not the author's fault, it's the people who come up with it. Kinoshita hasn't done anything wrong with her manga. You think people will just stop using children in fictional stories to try and avoid the sick minds of fans?

That'd be all well and good if Sakura randomly turned into a 18 year old looking teenage girl every once in a while, and wasn't afraid to make her intrest in boys aparent. Matantei Loki isn't a series for kids, it's ran in a manga magazine for teenage boys, and deals with enough blood and gore, as well as mature situations to get it a 13+ rating. CCS never had any goddesses of fertility and love walking around nude.

And if you're basing your opinion off the anime, keep in mind that the anime version only has about 3 episodes based off the manga, and everything else was completely different. The manga targets teens, whereas the anime was produced with a kiddy audience in mind. Tactics is going through something simular. The anime version is getting a targeted audience of well, adults. It's being aired at 1 in the morning, and has enough questionable fanservice to keep you wondering about the manga it's based on.

I understand what your saying: I'm not attacking the author/artist, but the people who will draw the smut, or use the "true form" excuse to justify their portrail of the character in sexual situations. The thing is as I said before its basically a somewhat acceptable in Japan now, and isn't looked down upon. The theory I read is that in earlier times, when the Japanese were less open about sexuality and most teens were fairly unexperienced in relationships, many of these people whould lack confidence when they grow up and start adut relationships. The portrail of the opposide sex as innocent and childlike appealed to these people. That could be why you have artists in Japan who are able to make a living by drawing girls in sexual intercourse with monsters. But it is legal (sadly I learned this from a comicbook) and is better than tramatizing a kid for the sake of someone getting off.

This really puzzles me on how people can find some characters attractive. Seriously, how many girls want to see Manji (http://images.darkhorse.com/covers/11/11737.jpgand this is one of his better pictures), a cynical grump covered in scars, act fruity?

Act fruity, or get it on with another guy? Either way, I have no idea. Yaoi fangirls make no sense to me, but I'm sure there's some girl out there who think he's hot and would be even hotter doing it with another guy.

And back to the "true form" thing. Do you mean smut with a person as a kid, or with a person as an adult. If you mean the kid thing, I too find it sickening. If it's him in his true form, well... take a look at the skin "A lil Something for the ladies" and see if you can blame a fangirl for wanting to see more skin.

Yes, but then they'd be writing erotic fanfiction about a mythological character. I've already seen enough Bible slash, thank you very much.

Well that's your own personal opinon and doesn't mean anything is wrong with the series.
