One thing that could work out well, at least from the points of view of pacing and comprehensiveness, is an adaptation of the Answer only, skipping the Journey. The Journey's story progression appeared to be designed from the ground up to be a long, calendar based game. The result is that the Journey's plot is too disjointed and long to make a good film, or even a TV series. The Answer, however, felt more like a small narrative with forcibly inserted grinding sessions. It is much more suited for a film adaptation. The problem with such a movie is that it locks out people who haven't played P3, but so will a badly compressed adaptation of the Journey.

When I first heard about it, the post only mentioned that a teaser existed without any additional info. I had some mild hopes that it would feature the female protagonist instead, but at least the hope was dashed quickly.

3 would be harder to animate than 4 since half the game is you grinding levels in the tower with zero story around it. It doesn't have 'character dungeons' like Persona 4 did. That also might make it easier in some respects.. you just animate the social links and that's it, then only bring in the tower for the final level.

I'm a bit baffled that people seem to think that P3 would be easier to adapt than P4. Social links aside, in 4 you had the character dungeons, the murder mystery, spoiler[Izanami,] and that's it.

In 3, leaving out Tartarus and the Social Links, just off the top of my head you have:

-the full moon Shadow fights (pretty much all of which are key to advancing the story--spoiler[just killing them all is a major plot point])
-Pharos
-Yukari, her father, and Kirijo's history
-Shinjiro/Ken
-Strega
-Junpei/Chidori
-Aigis
-spoiler[Ikutsuki's betrayal and death]
-Ryoji
-the cult of Nyx
-the year-end decision
-the final battle
-graduation day

(And you know that no matter how confined the format, they're going to find a way to cram the hot springs hijinks in there, somehow.)

Between the two games, P3 needs the space of a full TV season much more than P4 did.

4 is harder because there's an actual running story the whole way through. 3's idea of introducing a new character is "Hey, I found a new person! Have fun!" and its story progression is "We beat a new Shadow, good job! You've become tired." Shinjiro, Strega and the backstory are the only things that really need to be hit on until you hit the 12th Shadow. That's not much, you can get to early November (I think?) in about 30-45 mins like that.

Persona 4's movie apparently doesn't even cover most of the story. ANN sent a reviewer who couldn't actually do the review because he hadn't seen the show (they thought it was a full retelling). P3 might do the same I suppose, but that seems much riskier without a TV series to cover the rest. Right now it sounds like a stand-alone project.[/i]
