Actually I've never been to Japan Expo, admittedly. Wonder if it's as bad as the few American cons I've been to. |

Looking at the number, It seems like French fans treat Anime and other Japanese pop culture better than American fans.

They do. It's been in their culture a lot longer than it has in America. European in general is better at anime than America is. Italy's another good country. |

Forget AX, that number even eclipses San Diego Comic Con by over 30,000 people. It's a very impressive number.

I think that expo is for all of france right? France is only about the size of texas from what I can see.
AX, the largest anime convention in the US has 47,000 but thats mainly in CA. |

I just got back from covering it for ANN (article coming), and I was very impressed with the way they treated the culture as a whole. There was a lot on offer that dealt with traditional Japanese culture as well as pop culture, with armor smithing, traditional music, tales from The Kojiki, and a lot of traditional artists and artisans displaying their wares. It was really quite something, and I'm most excited about them bringing that aspect of the con to the US. I guess rather than saying that they treat Japanese culture better, it would make more sense to say that they simply have a more inclusive view of what fandom is. |
