The Summer 2012 Anime Preview Guide

Muv-luv Alternative - Total Eclipse. This has the potential to be one of the biggest shows this season. It's a rare show that spoiler[builds up a full cast - with them featured in opening credits - then kills all bar one cast member]. I'm eager to see where it goes from here (I'm a little upset though that spoiler[Yui didn't end up a catatonic wreck]).

It is not as rare as you might think. I have seen several anime do something like this and to be honest I think Muv-Luv handled it badly. I strongly disagree that it built up a full cast. No one seemed to have much in the way of a personality. It might end up being the biggest show of the season but it needs to manage its time skips better and do a lot better with its characters.

Yep, Muv-Luv Total Eclipse is all shock factor and no substance. They killed off a bunch of characters I don't know anything about nor care about in any way, and it seems like they are banking on the fact that we'll find their mutiliation so shocking we'll completely miss how shoddy the animation quality and storytelling is. TOO BAD! I'm on to you Muv-Luv, or shall I say I'm off to you, because you are dropped.

I'm not into anime for the gore, I'm here for the story and characters. Thus far the characters are non-existant, and the plot can be summed up as "BETA fall, everyone dies". As a prologue to the "main story", they could have covered everything in a single episode (Space Aliens! Boogie-boogie!). If this is one-cour, I can't see how they can really make a recovery from this in 10 more episodes when I already feel like they've wasted my time. If one of my friends comes to me after episode 8 or 9 airs and tells me the story is epic, I might give it another shot, but my expectations considering the current quality displayed in writing aren't high.

Huh. Well, they might have enough time to redeem themselves then. I'll let someone else let me know, though. I'm not going to stick around waiting for it to get interesting.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the anime name for the anime in the main pic of the Summer 2012 Anime Preview Guide with the guy holding the girl in his arms.

Of course, watching Aesthetica on Funi is going to be worthless since it's most likely to be censored (unless they somehow offer 720p resolution+uncensored to paying members....hahaha).

Given that their simulcasts last season were 720p to Elite members, I would expect that.

Uncensored is not something I expect to see anywhere in simulcasts until either the audience is much larger or the subscription fees higher. People in Japan pay the equivalent of around $23 per month for AT-X.

Looking for uncensored simulcasts on $7-$8 per month services is like looking for HBO2Go to be offered standalone for $4 per month.
